Weekly Update 10/5/26
Our attendance challenge is in full swing. The three top homerooms for September were Mrs. Aumer (6th grade), Mrs. Nowicki (7th grade) and Mr. Cervone (8th grade). Students in these homerooms were given coupons for the bookstore.
I recently read a book called, The Amazing Generation. The book is designed for middle school students and discusses the perils of social media and the impact that social media has on their development. Additionally, the book discusses how the big tech companies don't really care about our children, just about making more money. We are looking to incorporate the text into our 7th grade health curriculum and this may even be a book that you want to read as a family.
Speaking of technology, artificial intelligence (AI) is growing and spreading faster and faster every day. While we are working to educate students on how to use AI in a safe and efficient manner, it should not replace the critical thinking skills that students need to learn. Students are reminded not to use AI for their homework and projects unless explicitly told by the teacher that they can us it. Using AI for such assignments will result in academic and possibly disciplinary consequences.
Our English as a New Language (ENL) Graduation will take place on Thursday, October 8th at 5pm is the MS Cafeteria.

We still have a few evacuation drills to complete. We have been working around weather and testing, along with coordinating with the Intermediate School and District Office, due to the fact that the buildings are all connected. We hope to finish the drills this week.
We will also be practicing two (2) lockdown drills in the coming months. We will send out more information about the timing of these drills as those date approach.
