Vocal Music Academy

The Choral Program at Matawan Regional High School offers a unique educational experience in which you may gain not only musical skills and a lifelong appreciation of music, but discipline, self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment by working with others toward THE COMMON GOAL OF EXCELLENCE. As a member of the MRHS Chorus you are expected to be a credit to your choir, your school, and your community. Because we are committed to EXCELLENCE we must have a common high standard.

VOCAL ACADEMY OVERVIEW

  • This is a four-year sequential program for the serious vocal student. Music experiences include vocal technique, solo and choral performances, music theory, and ear training. Field trips, performances, and professional guest artists are included in the curriculum. Repertoire studied includes all genres of music.

  • As a member of the Vocal Music Academy the student must participate in at least two after school ensembles at MRHS. The students will present at least two main concerts a year and are required to attend all rehearsals prior to a performance.

  • Students are also expected to continue their interest in music through the participation in out of school activities such as All Shore Chorus and All State Chorus.

  • Students in this program must also register for the appropriate level of Music Theory in order to take the AP Music Theory Exam in Grade 12.
