Global Humanities
The mission of the Global Humanities Academy is to provide students with a comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum that enables them to develop the knowledge and the skills to succeed in any life pursuit.
Global Humanities (World) - Students will benefit from a true interdisciplinary format combining Language Arts and Social Studies content in one course. Students will develop skills in critical thinking, writing, reading, and speaking. By combining the study of literature and world history, students will understand various human cultures, perspectives, and art forms. By studying literature in its historical and social contexts, students will gain a deeper understanding of the people and times. The interrelatedness between society and culture will be a recurring theme throughout the course. Ninth graders will develop an understanding of global themes through a research project that will prepare them for a comprehensive liberal arts education.
Oral Communications - Ninth graders will take this course to develop the student’s oral communication skills. Emphasis will be placed upon learning how to present a demonstration speech, an informative speech, and a persuasive speech. Further emphasis will be given to improving the student’s ability to speak in college and job interviews. It is also designed to further develop the student’s written communication skills. Students will be instructed in nonverbal communication, practical reading and writing skills, organizational writing techniques, and resume writing.
Global Humanities (USA) - This course extends students’ understanding of society and culture through the study of American literature and history. Students will examine the history of our nation from its founding to the Progressive Era. By reading and analyzing works by American authors, students will learn how literary movements shaped our national identity, gaining a deeper understanding of the American society. Students will complete a research project to synthesize course content and develop their own theses centered around American culture and identity.
AP Capstone Program - Global Humanities students will take AP Seminar as 11th graders and AP Research as 12th graders to earn the AP Capstone Certificate. Students who take AP Seminar, AP Research, and score a 3 or higher on four additional AP exams, will earn the highly prestigious AP Capstone Diploma.
AP Seminar - Students will develop and practice the skills in research, collaboration, and communication that they'll need in college. Students will investigate topics in a variety of subject areas, write research-based essays, and design and give presentations both individually and as part of a team.
AP Research - Students build on what they learned in AP Seminar to deeply explore an academic topic, problem, or issue of individual interest. Through this exploration, students will design, plan, and conduct a year-long research based investigation to address a research question.
