Below, you will find a link to Flipgrid. The code is 1af79005. There you will watch your 5th graders describe the castle they made, and enjoy a castle play created and performed by the students! And keep scrolling down for more!
For the third marking period, all of the 5th graders collaborated on creating a medieval style castle. The classes began by using their Chromebooks to take a Google Classroom survey. The survey helped the students choose the theme of the castle, and gave them the ability to add what they would like to see on the castle.
Each class created groups that worked on different segments of the castle. Students had the opportunity to choose what they wanted to make and were able to change groups whenever they wanted.
This was a completely student choice activity!!!
The castle walls stood 5 feet tall.
The dimensions of the castle were 20 foot by 20 foot. Large enough to hold over 45 students!
The castle keep stood over 8 feet tall!!!
A group of students created a castle play, which was performed by three of the 5th grade classes for Defino's Kindergartners.
After the play, each 5th grader partnered up with a Kindergartner and gave them a tour of all the parts of the castle!
Mr. Young, our band teacher, got a couple of our 5th graders to play a fanfare for the castle experience!
Ms. Kraemer, out technology teacher, and Mrs. Atwood, our media teacher, helped by having the 5th graders create torches for the castle by making a STEM activity!
All the 5th graders created a memorable experience for the Kindergartners!
The students had to problem solve, plan, collaborate, create, innovate, and did everything under a time constraint to understand the pressures of having a deadline for a project of this scope.
