Summer Reading Wrap Up BINGO Activity
August 2024
As a way of building community, putting into practice our Marist Way values and promoting reading for pleasure, we will dedicate one homeroom to Summer Reading with a BINGO activity.
Directions:
Hand one BINGO card to each student. BINGO cards are slightly different. Students will need a pen or pencil.
Ask students to walk around the room and talk about their summer reading books with each other. They may use more than one summer reading book to complete this activity.
Eventually, two students will find a match with ANY book they read this summer. For example, each student read a historical novel; i.e. The Enigma Game by Elizabeth Wein and Projekt 1065 by Alan Gratz. Stretching out the Marist Way values to make a match with their books will require a deeper inquiry and may not be as obvious. For example, Gandalf the Grey from The Lord of the Rings and Cinna from The Hunger Games may be considered as “wise and experienced leaders.”
Students should write down the classmate’s name and the title of the book in the space below the description and begin circulating around the room again to find another match.
Once a student makes “5 in a row,” the student has reached BINGO! Please feel free to determine the “prize” for your winners and homeroom.
When your homeroom is finished, please collect all BINGO cards and place them in the library mailbox in the faculty lounge. We will include these with our evaluation instrument.

The Marists build a strong relationship with God and rely on God in good times and troubled times.
Students develop trust in God through prayer, building community, and in service to others.
Students strive to “taste God” through deeper experiences with the Holy Spirit, reflections, and prayers, as well as pondering the mystery of God’s love.
We encourage union with God, and become models for such union, as we nurture peace in ourselves and with others. In a word, we seek “oneness” with God, a mystical union with God.
Marists believe Mary developed such a relationship with God in a certain way as she responded to God’s call and in her relationship as a mother to her Son.
Summer reading can provide us a chance to interpret God’s call in our lives and expand our hearts to develop a relationship with God as Mary did.
In “our relationship with God” we trust God's plan for us. We seek union with God. Seeking union with God is a lifelong journey of growth, exploration, and deepening relationship that requires openness, humility, and a willingness to continually learn and grow. Some qualities of a healthy relationship with God include:
Trust and Faith: Trusting in God's wisdom, love, and guidance, even during times of uncertainty or difficulty, is essential for a healthy relationship.
Openness and Surrender: Being open to God's will and surrendering our own desires and plans allows for a deeper alignment with His purpose for our lives.
Communication: Regular prayer, meditation, and reflection enable ongoing communication with God, fostering intimacy and understanding in the relationship.
Love and Compassion: Cultivating love and compassion for oneself and others reflects the love of God and strengthens our connection to Him.
Gratitude: Expressing gratitude for God's blessings, both big and small, fosters a sense of appreciation and humility in the relationship.
Humility and Obedience: Recognizing our limitations and submitting to God's authority with humility and obedience fosters a healthy dynamic of trust and reliance on His guidance.
Seeking Wisdom and Guidance: Actively seeking wisdom and guidance from God through prayer, meditation, scripture study, and spiritual mentors helps deepen our understanding of His will and strengthens our relationship with Him.
Service and Generosity: Serving others and sharing God's love through acts of kindness, charity, and compassion reflects our relationship with Him and strengthens our connection to His purposes.
Patience and Perseverance: Maintaining patience and perseverance during times of trial or spiritual dryness demonstrates a commitment to the relationship and allows for growth and transformation over time.
Joy and Peace: Experiencing joy and peace in God's presence and finding contentment and fulfillment in His love are indicators of a healthy and thriving relationship with Him.
