Intervention

The TUPE program uses intervention support when a student is caught using tobacco or nicotine. This is an alternative to suspension. We promote the following types of intervention programs: 1) Brief Intervention counseling support, 2) My Healthy Futures, a self-paced online course through the Stanford Toolkit, 3) YVAPE students participate in telephone counseling sessions, watch short educational videos, and complete discussion questions with their parent/guardian or YVAPE counselor.

BI is a short-term counseling intervention consisting of 2-4 sessions aimed at adolescents who use alcohol, tobacco/nicotine, or other drugs. This approach uses motivational interviewing, cognitive behavior therapy,  and the stages of change model to meet the needs of adolescents.

The “MY Healthy Future: A Self-Paced Online Course” is an Alternative-to-Suspension (ATS) program created by the Stanford REACH Lab, developers of the Tobacco Prevention Toolkit and the Cannabis Awareness and Prevention Toolkit. This course is for any student caught using tobacco/vaping on school campus, or anyone working with students who want to quit. This new online, self-paced course can be completed independently by students in 40-60 minutes.  Click HERE for a past tutorial on components and acitvities from the Healthy Futures: An Alternative to Suspension Curriculum

YouthVaping Alternative Program Education (YVAPE) is a program available to all public schools in the state of California. Enrolled students participate in telephone counseling sessions, watch short educational videos, and complete discussion questions with their parent/guardian or YVAPE counselor. Visit the YVAPE website for more information and to enroll eligible students.
