Tobacco Use Prevention Education
Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Program: The purpose of the state-funded TUPE program is to reduce substance use by empowering students in grades 6-12 to make healthful decisions through preventative instruction, intervention, cessation programs, and activities through youth development. The TUPE program aims to provide services such as:
Tobacco prevention education
School-based events for teachers and students
Tobacco and vaping education curriculum
Student intervention support
Tobacco-free policies
Tobacco-free signage to all district-owned building entrances
Ongoing district support with policies
According to a UCSD study of 58K students in 117 schools, schools funded by CDE's Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Office have lower rates of tobacco use than other schools.
The Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) program strives to reduce youth tobacco, e-cigarette, and vaping use by helping students make informed decisions through research-based curriculum and activities that educate, build social skills, and develop youth leadership to empower the next generation of tobacco-free advocates.
