11/28/2025 - The NMI U15 National Baseball Team that is on Guam competing in the U15 Men’s Baseball Oceania Championship 2025 was sent off with well wishes and good luck during their send off ceremony on Monday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room. They flew out to Guam on Wednesday and are facing off against Guam and Australia, with a loss yesterday morning against powerhouse Australia, 0-15.
11/28/2025 - This month, we feature Christina Tudela—a versatile bodybuilder, who from the local stages of competition, made her rise to the top podium of the regional scene. Tudela began her bodybuilding journey across multiple divisions five years ago with a debut gold finish in the Bikini division of the 2020 Dee Clayton Classic. In the 2021 DC Classic, she competed in Figure and settled for a bronze; in the 2022 DC Classic, she won double gold in the Wellness and Figure Short, and also secured the Overall Figure title.
11/26/2025 - The NMI’s 2025 Davis Cup team made up of Colin Sinclair, Robbie Schorr, Colin Ramsey, and Anthony Gregoire lifted NMI to the next level in the Davis Cup with a promotion to Group IV after a strong campaign from last Wednesday to Sunday in Isa Town, Bahrain.
11/25/2025 - The Inaugural Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan Golf Tournament, which benefited the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance, teed off at the LaoLao Bay Golf Resort West Course, and ended with an awards banquet and Ataari dinner show at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan on Saturday.
11/24/25 - Fastpitch softball is making a comeback as the Saipan Little League “Girls with Game” Fastpitch Softball League hosted a two-day clinic to NMI’s future softball players ahead of its 2026 season at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Field in Susupe.

11/17/2025 - The NMI Basketball Federation brought the Her World, Her Rules Next Play Program to Tinian from Nov. 7-9.
11/14/2025 - Kagman High School Ayuyus are champions again—this time in the Inaugural PSS-NMISA High School Fastpitch League 2025-2026 after winning the slow pitch title twice in a row. It comes after weeks of rain delays, but it didn’t douse their fire as they beat Marianas High School Dolphins via walkoff in a thrilling finals, 15-14, on Monday at the Capital Hill Softball Field.

11/14/2025 - The All-Star Girls High School Volleyball program under the NMI Volleyball Association wrapped up Saturday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium after nearly two weeks of training and games from Oct. 27 to Nov. 7.
11/13/2025 - It was a day of movement and of honoring those who served as the 3rd Annual NMC Volleyball Club Veterans Day Beach Volleyball Tournament took to the sands of Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan.
11/13/2025 - The U17 NMI National Men’s Soccer Team was sent off with well wishes during a sendoff ceremony on Tuesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium ahead of the AFC U17 Men’s Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers in Hanoi, Vietnam from Nov. 22-30.
11/13/25 - Over a hundred participants took to the new course at Paseo De Marianas in Garapan early on Veterans Day for the HYC-Run Saipan 3rd Annual Veterans Day 5K, honoring those who have served. While most ran leisurely with friends and family, it was also a competitive race for some, with medals given out to the top runners in their respective divisions.
11/11/2025 - The stakes were high and the action was heated as the Trench Tech Promotions’ “Mats on Fire” submission grappling tournament went on all day last Saturday at the Garapan Central Park Roundhouse. Over 80 competitors took to the mats with young guns showing out in the kids division, while upsets, revenge, and sweet victories were the forefront in the adult division.

11/07/2025 - The NMI athletes that competed at the 2025 Oceania Athletics Cup and Masters Championships in Tonga held from Oct. 29-Nov. 1, put on an exceptional performance, with NMI athletes representing Team Micronesia and the NMI Masters team earning medals, breaking records, and proudly carrying the NMI flag on the regional stage once again.
11/06/2025 - A new indoor golf spot has opened up in Garapan—Ocean Drive Golf—giving everyone a chance to practice their swing, pick up a new hobby, or just have some fun indoors, rain or shine. The place is owned by avid golfer Luther Taylor and his dad, CNMI Sports Hall of Famer Jeff Taylor. Luther and his wife also own the cafe Hafa Bean, which is right downstairs.
11/05/2025 - The cards are always in favor of the Cardinals as they won their third straight title after sweeping the Falcons in two straight games of the best-of-3 championship series of the 2025 Saipan Baseball League men’s open at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

10/31/2025 - The Triathlon Association of the CNMI held its Tide & Stride Aquathlon and 10K run on Sunday at Kilili Beach. The event was open to both kids and adults, who came out for a morning of swimming and running along the scenic Kilili Beach and Beach Road Pathway. A special course was also set up for the U6 and U12 kids.
10/30/25 - It was a battle of reptiles in the championships once again, but this time, the southside Hopwood Middle School Hilitais got the better of the Saipan International School Geckos in a lopsided 10-1 final to claim the 2025-2026 PSS-NMIFA Girls Middle School Soccer League title on Tuesday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.
10/29/25 - A youth baseball team—the Little Braves from the Natibu Sports Association (NSA) consisting of 11 players aged 11-12, are on their way to Hongseong, South Korea to participate in the 3rd annual Kim Tae‑kyun Baseball Camp’s three-day exchange games from Oct. 31-Nov. 2.
10/29/25 - The Saipan Paddling Club showed out for the 28-member CNMI delegation in the 25th Annual Micronesian Cup Canoe Race in Palau held from Oct. 24-26 as they bagged a total of six medals—one gold, two silver, and three bronze.
10/28/25 - The elite 14-member NMI high school cross country team put their best foot forward and closed out the cross country season on a high note with a podium finish at the annual Asia Pacific Invitational Cross Country Championship held last Friday and Saturday in Guam.

10/23/25 - More than 500 participants painted the Garapan Fishing Base and Beach Road Pathway with a kaleidoscope of colors on Saturday during the CNMI Youth Congress’ Inaugural Red Ribbon 5K and Fun Run, held to raise awareness about living a substance and nicotine-free life.
10/23/25 - The Trench Tech Purebred Saipan team took the 2025 Marianas Open International Championship (Gi & No-Gi Tournament) by storm as all 12 of their athletes bagged podium finishes with a total of 19 medals won on Saturday at the University of Guam Fieldhouse. To top it off, both Saipan and Guam’s Purebred team took home second place in the overall Kids Team Gi division.
10/21/25 - After eight long years of Grace Christian Academy Eagles’ reign over the girls high school volleyball scene, there’s finally a new champion on top. The undefeated Marianas High School Dolphins claimed the once-elusive title this school year after sweeping the Saipan Southern High School Lady Manta Rays in straight sets, 21-12, 21-11, on Friday at the raucous Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Sablan Middle School Napu Riders once again showed why they’re the team to beat, cruising to a 25-11 win over the Chacha Ocean View Middle School Lancherus to secure their second straight boys middle school basketball title in the 2025-2026 PSS-NMIBF IT&E League on Saturday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
10/14/25 - Runners shone as bright as the Saturday morning sun in the 2025-2026 PSS-NMA All Schools Cross Country championships at the Saipan Country Club. Across rough terrain, puddles, and slippery grass, hundreds of feet pounded through—and when the dust finally settled and sweat still dripped as the sun tried to break through the cloudy skies, the fastest runners claimed their spots on the podium, and the top teams proudly etched their names onto the perpetual trophy for the school year.

10/09/2025 - Son of Micronesia, Antoni Kade Aguon Ogumoro, is soaking it all in during his freshman year at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he plays on the offensive line for the football team. He officially signed with UT on a full scholarship last year after graduating early from Elgin High School in Oklahoma. He was an early enrollee and started college in January.
10/07/25 - The crew of Gabby Jo hauled in the heaviest catch—a 245-lb marlin—during the 4th Annual Tasi To Table Mixed Classic Fishing Derby on Saturday at Smiling Cove Marina. Gabby Jo, captained by Jesse Tenorio, with co-captain John John San Nicolas and angler Jess Guerrero caught a total of 263-lbs and walked away with the first-place prize of $3,000, a $100 gift certificate from Fishing Tackle, and lures from CK Lures out of Hawaii.

10/01/25 - A sendoff ceremony for the NMI U17 Women’s National Soccer Team was held on Tuesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium ahead of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers in Bishan, Singapore. They have been placed in Group E with Australia and host nation Singapore. They’ll kick things off against a formidable Australian team on Monday, Oct. 13, then go up against Singapore on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
10/01/25 - The CNMI’s first-ever indoor pickleball courts—the Saipan Ultimate Pickleball Hub in Tanapag—officially opened to the public on Saturday. The facility features four courts and offers both monthly and daily rates. Dozens of pickleball enthusiasts gathered for the opening of the hub, which was created for players of all ages and skill levels. It adds much-needed options for the growing community of pickleball players on the island.
09/29/25 - This month, we feature Antonette Labausa—an accomplished, multi-medal weightlifter who has earned podium finishes in both local and regional competitions. Her achievements include multiple medals at the 2018 Micro Games, 2022 Pacific Mini Games, 2022, 2023, and 2024 Guam Championships, the 2023 Marianas Cup, the 2024 Oceania Championships, and the 2024 Micro Games.
09/29/25 - Instead of only hosting Tinian and Rota teams during championship tournaments, the PSS Athletic Programs is expanding play to those islands—giving their high school athletes more game time and experience in three sports: volleyball, fastpitch softball, and basketball.
09/27/25 - CNMI paddlers of all ages are gearing up for the 25th Annual Micro Cup Canoe Race in Palau, set for Oct. 24–26. A series of races off Kilili shores, held since the national team’s return from the Palau Pacific Mini Games, has been preparing the batch of paddlers who will go up against teams from Guam, Palau, and the Marshall Islands.

09/25/25 - The volleyball scene was buzzing on championship day of the 2nd Annual 4 Starz Fall Fest Volleyball Tournament at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium on Saturday, and it didn’t disappoint as every final went down to the wire. Athletes, dripping with sweat and fueled by passion for the sport, pushed through late into the night as every bump, set, spike, and block carried the three championship games to their very last sets—each one close enough to go either way.
09/24/25 - The 2025 Mount Carmel School Golf Tournament teed off on Saturday, Sept. 20, at LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort’s East Course after a long hiatus, returning with high drama in the gross division as three teams finished tied at 9-under-par 63, forcing a sudden playoff on the 18th hole to decide the champions. Held to raise funds for the renovation of MCS facilities, the event drew strong community support with 104 golfers, and the competition did not disappoint.
09/23/25 - The 5th Annual International Day of University Sports (IDUS) at the Oleai Sports Complex on Saturday began with a light drizzle, but the showers soon passed, leaving an overcast sky as the backdrop for a lively morning of movement and connection. Dozens of residents came out to take part, filling the track and field with activity. The morning had it all—spikeball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, soccer, athletics, and basketball. The variety gave everyone, from casual players to competitive ones, a chance to jump in.
09/22/25 - Run Saipan, in honor of Dr. Ron Snyder, who was instrumental in the formation of the run club, held a farewell 5K on Wednesday at the Beach Road Pathway in front of the Oleai Beach Bar and Grill. Surrounded by friends, colleagues, students, and his two best fur-friends Gilligan and Sophie, they took on the pathway heading south despite the steady pour of rain and cold breeze.
09/20/25 - The NMI’s Marianas Outrigger Club joined history on Sept. 14 by competing in the inaugural Va’a Japan National Championships in Enoshima. The team arrived in Tokyo on Sept. 12 before traveling south to the race venue, where they trained with host club Shonan Outrigger Canoe Club and adjusted to Tahitian V6 canoes. Calm practice waters turned rough on race day, with strong winds and swells forcing officials to shorten the course and delay the start. There were eight race categories—OC6 and V6 men’s/women’s open; and OC6 and V6 men’s/women’s masters 45.

09/18/25 - From the small island of Saipan to the sands of the Association of Volleyball Professionals, (AVP), Logan Mister and Andrew Johnson have made their mark this summer with podium finishes and a jump onto U.S. beach volleyball’s biggest stage.
09/16/2025 - The boat Bella, captained by Justice Perry Inos, landed the payload of $20,900 with their 255-lb haul during the 3rd Annual Saipan Fishermen Association Elijah Craig Bourbon Billfish Jackpot Tournament on Saturday at the Smiling Cove Marina. A close second was just a pound behind—a 254-lb marlin reeled in by Borrow Fan, which also took the side bet prize of $2,000. The boat was captained by Jerry Babauta with anglers Alfred Muna, Wayne Martin, and J-Boy Taitano.

9/11/2025 -The sights, sounds, and soul of Yankee Stadium through the eyes of an island girl. lf I wasn’t already overwhelmed with awe just being in the states for the first time, I definitely was the moment I stepped into Yankee Stadium. My lifelong dream—the number one item on my bucket list—was finally coming true: watching the New York Yankees live. It was a Saturday afternoon I’ll never forget. The blend of the crowd’s chatter, music thumping from the sound system, flashing lights, a sea of pinstripe jerseys and fitted caps, and the smell of food from seemingly everywhere overwhelmed my senses in the best way possible.
09/07/2025 - Ned Norita topped the low gross category of the 5th Annual Marianas Classic Golf Tournament held last Aug. 30 at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort. The former Saipan Baseball League player shot a gross score of 70 to top the field. Brian Camacho came in second with his gross 71, while Zhi Yun Li actually tied the latter but settled for third place on a scorecard tiebreak.
9/6/2025 - Victor Nash Santos reset the course record for Run Saipan’s 21-kilometer standard after topping the 4th Annual Half Marathon last Aug. 30. The 17-year-old senior from Saipan International School ran the course from the parking lot of Marianas Beach Resort to Pacific Islands Club Saipan and back in 1:30:03 to eclipse the old record of 1:42:15 set by James Munnis last year.

08/29/2025 - The 670 Magas Babes and Asahi are this year’s champions in the 2025 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association women’s and masters league. The Babes seized the tiara in the women’s division with a sweep of the Batties in two straight games in the best-of-3 format. In the first game, they won, 10-3, and in the second, they clinched the title with a commanding 24-2 final.

08/21/2025 - It was indeed the home of the Braves as both their senior and junior league teams rallied to clinch the championships of the 2025 Saipan Little League Baseball on Saturday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field. After so many rain delays, the finals wrapped up just before the end of summer, as the Braves ended it on a high note with not one—but two championships.
08/20/2025 - This month, we feature Shawn Fleming—a multi-award-winning bodybuilder in Saipan’s 2024 and 2025 Dee Clayton Classic & Northern Marianas Bodybuilding Federation competition, and in Guam’s 2025 WNBF Guam Classic Muscle Showdown. Fleming was the overall champion in both bodybuilding and classic physique in the 2025 Saipan event, while he was the overall bodybuilding champion in the 2024 event.
08/19/2025 - A sendoff ceremony for the NMI U23 Men’s National Soccer Team—making their debut in the AFC U23 division as they compete in the 2026 Asian Cup Qualifiers in Xi’an, China—was held earlier this evening at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. The team is made up of a young group of players who will be going up against tough, experienced opponents in Group D. While most nations are fielding rosters stacked with 22-year-olds, NMI’s squad features mostly teens—the youngest just 16—with only one player at 22.
08/18/2025 - The NMI U20 women’s national soccer team was honored at a special lunch celebration on Friday at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan, following a groundbreaking performance that etched their names into the history books with NMI’s first-ever win in an AFC qualifier on Sunday, Aug. 10. The team closed out the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers in historic fashion, defeating Bahrain, 3-0, in a dominant final match.

08/15/2025 - Jericho Cruz, a former Marianas High School basketball standout, has been named Finals MVP of the Philippine Basketball Association’s Philippine Cup—Asia’s oldest professional basketball league. Cruz played a pivotal role in the San Miguel Beermen’s six-game championship series win over TNT Tropang Giga, averaging 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.

08/07/2025 - Good food and cold beer always add up to good vibes by the beach under the summer sun—especially during Budweiser’s Burger Fest last Saturday at the Marianas Beach Resort. The day had it all, from fun games and sports on land and sea—paddleboarding, the Beer Mile with Run Saipan, pickleball with the Pickleball Federation, and cornhole. Not to mention, a King of the Grill was crowned, and the MLB Flyaway winner battled his way to a trip to New York.
08/05/2025 - The undefeated teams of the 2025 APEC U18 Boys’ and Women’s Basketball League capped off the season by claiming the coveted championship titles, as Prime defeated the Hericanes, 44–34, in the women’s division, while Turnkey Solutions–G Rollers edged out the Hardt Eye–MP Raiders, 39–36, in the U18 finals at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium late Thursday night. In the first championship game of the night, the young and dynamic Prime squad—composed of middle school and high school players—never took their eyes off the trophy.

Ada Gymnasium.
7/29/2025 - A sendoff ceremony for the NMI U20 Women’s National Soccer Team that is competing in the Asian Football Conference U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers in Tashkent, Uzbekistan was held last Friday, July 25, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. But before the good luck wishes and speeches were made, a moment of silence was held for the late Gov. Arnold I. Palacios who passed away on July 23.

07/23/2025 – Six-time gold medalist in the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games Isaiah Aleksenko is going to the big league in 2026. This, after the 18-year-old told Marianas Press he will be making the move to Division 1 of the NCAA next year.
07/22/2025 - The Northern Marianas Athletics hosted its first-ever Meet & Greet with national athletics team members Tania Tan, Maria Quigutua, Simon Tang, and Theodore Rodgers on Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium Conference Room. Fresh off a strong showing at the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games—where the young team brought home four medals for Team Marianas, including two golds and a bronze from Tan, one gold from Lyle Andrew, and broke several national and personal records—the athletes reflected on the trials that shaped them, shared the powerful origin stories that set them on their path, looked ahead to what’s next, and offered words of wisdom and inspiration to the youth in attendance.

07/16/2025 - Only Reels repeated as Governor’s Cup grand prize winner of the 41st Saipan International Fishing Tournament held last July 12 and 13 in the waters around the Northern Marianas.
07/15/2025 - Victor Nash Santos and Tammy Ackerman topped the Inaugural Roll Out 5K organized by the Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority last July 9, starting from the Garapan Fishing Base along Beach Road. Santos, fresh from breaking the CNMI national 10,000m record in the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games, paced everyone with a time of 18:43. Jody O'Sullivan was second in the men’s field after clocking in at 20:41, while Pony Tang completed the Top 3 in 20:56.
07/15/2025- In celebration of two decades of commitment to the community through sport, the Northern Marianas Islands Football Association hosted a Youth Festival last Saturday afternoon at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville with an overall goal of encouraging athleticism while building community connections.
07/14/2025 - Former B.League point guard and Grind Basketball Guam founder Morgan Aiken Jr. doesn’t like tall people, which is ironic since the sport he’s become known for—basketball—is a tall man’s sport. “I always joke around with my tall friends, saying I don't like tall people, just because they always feel like, you know, they're tall, so they don't have to work on dribbling. And at least for me, like being shorter, it forces me to work on a lot more things,” said the 5’8” hooper from Guam. Instead of a disadvantage, Aiken, who was on Saipan to conduct a two-day basketball clinic under Grind Basketball Guam, said being short gave him that added perseverance and edge, which eventually helped him land a spot in the Japanese professional basketball league.

07/11/2025 Koror, Palau — Team Marianas’ 161-strong delegation made a statement at the 12th Pacific Mini Games in Palau, wrapping up with a strong showing of 31 medals—10 golds, eight silvers, and 13 bronzes—finishing sixth overall out of 23 Pacific nations. The swim team, led by flag bearer Isaiah Aleksenko stormed the podium on each of their pool event days bagging the most medals for the team at 14—with six gold won by Aleksenko; young wrestler Seth Sablan earned a gold in his division; and athletics’ standouts Tania Tan ran her way to two gold medals, with another gold by Lyle Andrew.
07/10/2025 - Koror, Palau — It was a storybook ending for Team Marianas as they wrapped up a strong run at the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games, finishing with a total of 31 medals—including a gold from Tania Tan and a bronze from the women’s 3x3 basketball team on the final day, Wednesday, July 9. When the dust settled, the sweat and tears dried, and the final tallies were in, Team Marianas landed in the top six overall with 10 golds, eight silvers, and 13 bronzes.
07/09/2025 - Koror, Palau — In the penultimate day of the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games, Team Marianas picked up its 29th medal—a silver in beach volleyball—after Logan Mister and Andrew Johnson went up against rival and powerhouse Australia, falling in two straight sets, 18-21, 18-21, on a hot and humid Tuesday.
07/08/2025 - Koror, Palau — The sun finally decided to make an appearance and keep the rain away—but it also brought with it a wave of heartbreak and upsets for Team Marianas at the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games. Still, a medal is a medal, and Monday, July 7, opened the week with bronze finishes for the NMI baseball team and athletics standout Tania Tan.
07/06/2025 Koror, Palau — It was another rainy hot, then later rainy day in Palau but Team Marianas kept the energy high as the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games continued. They added three more medals to their tally—all from weightlifting—thanks to Joey Colisao (silver and bronze) and Jason Limes (bronze) for a total of 26 medals as of July 5.
07/05/2025 - Koror, Palau — It was an explosive 4th of July for Team Marianas as they hauled in more medals, unofficially broke more national records, and notched big wins. The rain kept falling, but it didn’t dampen their campaign to put the NMI on the map at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games. The day started off with a bang as athletics finally opened up early with Tania Tan getting the gold in the 10,000m with a time of 38:03.57.

07/04/2025 - Koror, Palau — Day 4 of the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games was a tough one for Team Marianas, which added just one medal to its tally—a gold from flagbearer Isaiah Aleksenko—bringing the total to 19 medals so far. Each team and athlete rode a roller coaster of emotions, from big wins to tough losses, but our athletes continued to represent the CNMI with heart, pride, and passion.
07/03/2025 - Koror, Palau — Medals, drama, and thrilling action dominated Day 3 (July 2) of the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games as Team Marianas fired their way through another successful showing in the venues across Palau. After all the emotion, drama, and excitement of the day, Team Marianas added six more medals for a total of 18 medals so far.
07/02/2025 - Koror, Palau — Team Marianas is showing out on Day 2 of the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games, now six medals richer for a total of 12 won so far. The rain just won’t seem to let up in Palau and Team Marianas’ quest for medals isn’t either as the wrestling and swimming team won three more medals each.

06/27/2025 - The NMI National Triathlon Team has been running, swimming, and biking in the wild north of Saipan as they prepare to compete—whether under intense heat or rainy Palauan skies—at the upcoming 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games, set for June 29 to July 9. The sprint triathlon individual event will take each triathlete through the terrains of Palau, featuring a 750m open-water swim, a 20km bike ride, and a grueling 5K run.
06/26/2025 - The young NMI National Wrestling Team has been throwing it down at the beach and on the mats as they gear up for the upcoming 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games, set for June 29 to July 9. After wrestling made a grand comeback to the CNMI sports scene last year at the Micronesian Games—where the team put on a strong showing with six gold medals—a much younger, locally assembled U20 squad is now looking to make an impression among the Pacific’s youth wrestlers in beach wrestling, freestyle, and Greco-Roman.
06/25/2025 - The young but experienced NMI National Swim Team has been practicing in their element as they set out to make waves and strong finishes in Palau and take on some of the Pacific’s best at the upcoming 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games, set for June 29 to July 9. After a medal haul for the ages in the 2024 Micronesian Games—49 golds, 15 silvers, and 14 bronzes, the swim team is now up against much steeper competition in the bigger Pacific region.
06/24/2025 - The NMI Men’s and Women’s National Volleyball Team have been getting some high-flying and hard hitting action in at the Marianas High School Gymnasium as they are fired up to stage a comeback after a long hiatus in regional competition and put the Marianas back on the map at the 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games, set for June 29-July 9. Meanwhile, the NMI Men’s National Beach Volleyball duo have flown in from Hawaii and California to represent once again with redemption in mind.
06/23/25 - The NMI National Athletics Team is tearing up the track at the Oleai Sports Complex and in their respective training spaces off island, all in pursuit of track and field glory against some of the Pacific’s best—and even a few Olympians—at the upcoming 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games from June 29 to July 9. The squad are no stranger to competition as all but one athlete have experience in regional or international competition.
06/21/2025 - The NMI Men’s and Women’s National 3x3 Basketball Team have been letting it all out on the courts at Marianas High School Gym and Koblerville Gym as they prepare for a high level of intense competition in the upcoming 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games from June 29 to July 9. Despite it being a FIBA Asia/U23 and Commonwealth qualifier—with lots at stake and more dynamic and fast-paced play on half-court with no coach and only one backup player—the young men’s and women’s 3x3 squads are up for the challenge against powerhouses in the Pacific.

06/20/2025 - Defending gold medalists, the NMI Men’s National Baseball Team has been grinding at the very place where they won it all in the 2022 Pacific Mini Games—the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field—in preparation of defending their title in the upcoming 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games from June 29 to July 9. Three years after the CNMI hosted the Mini Games and its national baseball team clinched the championship, the team is now on a mission to defend that title as they face off against 2022 runner-up Guam, bronze medalist and host nation Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, Solomon Islands, and Fiji.
06/19/2025 - The NMI Women’s National Fastpitch Softball Team has been stirring up the dust at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Softball Field as they work on their team chemistry, softball IQ, and overall preparations for the upcoming 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games set for June 29-July 9. After breaking through with a bronze medal at the 2024 Micronesian Games—their first Micro Games appearance since 2006—this year’s team plans to ride that momentum into their first Pacific Mini Games appearance since 2005.
06/18/2025 - The NMI National Weightlifting Team has been shaking it up in the weightroom of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium as they gear up to beat some personal bests, get on the podium, and shine once again among other Pacific islands in the upcoming 2025 Palau Pacific Mini Games set for June 29-July 9. The usual suspects in the CNMI weightlifting world are back at it to compete for podium finishes—with an addition of one new lifter. The team is made up of Devine Pua, Riella Ichiuo, Angel San Nicolas, Jaden Andrew, Jason Limes, Joey Colisao, Leowell Cristobal, and 2024 Micronesian Games flagbearer Antonette Labausa, who is also the team coach.

06/13/2025 - Costly errors came back to bite CNMI’s All-Stars in the battle of the Marianas, with Guam rolling to an 18-3 win to stay undefeated in the 2025 Little League Asia-Pacific/Middle East Senior Regional Tournament this morning at Harmon Sports Complex in Guam.
06/12/2025 - The CNMI All-Stars brought out their big bats this morning in a high-energy game, slugging their way to a 15-4 drubbing of American Samoa on Day 2 of the 2025 Little League Asia-Pacific/Middle East Senior Regional Tournament at Harmon Sports Complex Field in Guam.
06/11/25 - It was a debut to remember for Team NMI’s U19 Junior National Badminton Team as they bagged the bronze medal in the VICTOR Oceania Junior Mixed Team Championships 2025 after the finale on Tuesday, June 10, at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. After a whirlwind three-day tourney filled with intense action, spirited rivalries, and emotional moments in front of the home crowd, NMI racked up a total of four wins and two losses to snag a place on the podium. Gold went to powerhouse Australia who won all six of their matches, while silver was New Zealand at five wins and one loss. The last opponent NMI faced in the tourney on Tuesday was neighbor rival Guam, who they came out of almost unscathed, 4-1.
06/11/2025 - Bright lights, tanned muscles, and loud music ruled the stage of the 2025 Dee Clayton Classic and Northern Marianas Bodybuilding Federation competition, held last June 7 at the Taga Hall, Saipan World Resort. Each competitor’s body was sculpture-like, with defined muscles and striations that stood as a testament to their discipline and hard work. Evan Choi was the overall winner in the men’s physique category, while Shawn Fleming claimed overall titles in both the bodybuilding and classic physique categories as the lone competitor. Christina Tudela was the women’s overall champion.
06/10/2025 - CNMI’s All Stars faced off against the Philippines on opening day earlier this afternoon, falling 1-13. The team’s lone run came from an RBI single by Damian Palacios that helped them avoid a shutout.

05/28/25 - It was a lit Saturday night as sweat, punches, and kicks flew inside the raucous Garapan Central Park Round House during the blazing Ring of Fire 3 Boxing and Kickboxing competition, which once again pitted fighters from the CNMI and Guam against each other. In the K-1 boxing main event that burned on until nearly midnight, Guam Muay Thai’s Harry Wells and Latte Built’s Teipo Brazy Asep had everyone who braved the heat on the edge of their seats. Each punch and kick drew oohs and ahhs from the crowd, fueling both fighters as they left everything in the ring.

05/22/25 - It was all hands on deck for the crew of Saba Too as they hauled in the biggest catch of the Tasi To Table’s 2nd Annual CNMI Reel Heroes International Fishing Derby on May 17—a massive 369-lb marlin.The monster catch, which earned them $2,000, was reeled in from the waters just east of Marpi Reef after a 45-minute battle that began around 1:30 p.m. Saba Too’s captain, James Roberto, said it was their second catch of the day after an unfortunate loss of another marlin earlier that morning.
05/21/25 - The east side lady sluggers from Kagman High School brought the heat in their championship showdown against Marianas High School, locking in the title in the inaugural PSS-NMISA Girls High School Fastpitch Softball League 2024-2025. With the sun blazing high above the Capital Hill Softball Field last Saturday, the Lady Ayuyus fired past the Lady Dolphins, 22-2.
05/20/25 - It was an early graduation gift for the seniors of Saipan International School, including team captain Casey Chambers, as SIS dethroned the three-time reigning boys high school volleyball champions, Marianas High School, in a heart-stopping five-set championship thriller on an electric Friday night to remember at a jam-packed and raucous Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. With ears ringing from the loud cheers, eyes stung by sweat, and nerves fueled by adrenaline, the Geckos catapulted to the championship after a down-to-the-wire battle with a formidable Dolphins team.

05/15/2025 - Skateboarders tore up the ramps at Saipan Skate Park on a high-energy Saturday during the 3rd Annual Marianas Skate Series 2025, hosted by the Marianas Surf Skate League. Sean Gil, the original king of the concrete in 2023, came back full throttle—snagging first place once again in the 2-5-3 Expert Competition with a killer score of 199.90. The 19-year-old landed a kick flip to fakie on the ramp—which was also his favorite trick in the competition, to snag the gold medal.
05/13/2025 - With music pumping, laughter echoing, and bodies moving through the locally owned Latte Built 24 Hour Gym in Chalan Kanoa, May 10 wasn’t just about fitness—it was a celebration of a decade filled with inspiration, growth, and community. Owners Derek Cutting, his wife Tania, and their son Makai were joined by community members, loyal gym-goers, staff, and friends for an afternoon of raffles, Zumba, and even beer yoga. For the Cuttings, this milestone was more than just a business anniversary—it marked years of hard work, passion, and meaningful connections.
05/12/25 - The Oleai Sports Complex was bustling with electric energy once again as middle school and high school track stars from Saipan, Tinian, and Rota put on a final show stopping performance during the two-day PSS-McDonald’s All Schools Athletics Championship 2024-2025. Despite the blazing sun and sudden downpours, the student-athletes dug deep, left everything on the track, and delivered performances packed with grit, heart, and high-octane action. When the final baton was passed and the last spikes crossed the finish line, Saipan International School dominated the leaderboard.

05/08/2025 - The 2025 Saipan Baseball League Open Division is back, kicking off with a thrilling opener on Wednesday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field. The defending champion Cardinals got off to a roaring start against the runner-up Padres, soaring to a definitive 18–8 victory after a huge seven-run final inning—signaling a competitive season ahead.
05/06/25 - Fueled by unfinished business, the Hopwood Middle School Lady Hilitais turned their quest for redemption into a flawless run to the championship of the IT&E Interscholastic Girls Middle School Basketball League 2024–2025. The south-side squad clashed with the north’s Tanapag Middle School Lady Tatagas in the finals and won it all, 31–19, last Saturday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium. Defense wins games—and it won them the championship this year.

5/1/2025 - The 2nd Annual Gio’s Cup Pickleball Tournament has been underway at the American Memorial Park Tennis Court no. 4 since Friday, April 23. The tournament wrapped up its first week of matches from Friday, April 23 to Sunday, April 27, with champions emerging in their respective divisions. The divisions include men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles from rankings 2.0+, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0+; and singles open division. The tournament will kick back up again on Friday, May 2, to Sunday, May 4.
4/30/25 - More basketball is underway as the 2025 APEC Women’s/U18 Boys Basketball League tipped off with 13 teams at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium last April 19. The league is being held in collaboration with the Northern Marianas Basketball Federation and APEC.
4/28/2025—Out of over 100 participants in the 4th Annual Run Saipan/CHCC Happy Hearts 5K. Fun Run and Walk on a festive Friday afternoon, United Airlines pilot James Munnis and U.S. Delegate Kimberlyn King-Hinds were the fastest in their respective divisions.

04/22/25 - In celebration of National Library Week and School Library Month, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library held a series of activities for the community—one of which was a two-day Self-Defense Class for children in San Antonio’s Fernando M. Benavente Memorial Library last April 16-17.
The seminar was led by MMA instructor Justis “Cuki” Alvarez and his wife Mari as they equipped participants with practical skills to recognize, avoid, and respond to potentially dangerous situations.

04/17/25 - CNMI Martial Arts Academy of Self-Defense-Kyokushinkai Karate Watanabe Dojo team made up of five martial artists bagged some podium finishes in their respective divisions in the 2025 Guam Full Contact Karate Championship at the iLearn Academy Charter School in Harmon, Guam last April 5.
Black belt and sensei Danny Banez went up against Guam’s Joseph Seremba and placed first in the Adult Senior Men's 60+ Openweight, while Dr. George Elias faced off against Guam’s Jonathan Basto and also placed first in the Adult Senior Men's 40-49 Openweight.
Young martial artist Zane Fujihara bagged a bronze and the Spirit Award in the Boys 9-11 division, while John Austin settled for silver against Guam’s Yuta Camacho in the Boys 14-16 division.
04/15/25 - With nothing but the shoes on his feet, sheer will and determination—and some motivation and support from his daughter—Saipan International School headmaster Dr. Ron Snyder ran 60K before his 59th birthday at the Long Creek 60K ultramarathon last April 6 at First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He ran the grueling, hilly, and hot race with a time of 9:55:05—finishing just five minutes before the race cutoff time of 10 hours. The ultramarathon course took runners through the historic first landing site of the Jamestown colony, looping through nearly all of the scenic trails. 04/14/25 - It was a lucky maiden voyage for the crew of Sweet Candy II as they won the grand prize of $3,000 with their 16.5-lb mahi in the Saipan Fishermen’s Association’s 21st Annual Mahi Fishing Derby last Saturday.
Captain George Moses Sr. and the crew of Sweet Candy II, which is the newer version of their old boat Sweet Candy—including his son Moses Jr. and Tom Tucker—caught the winning mahi on their way back to Saipan on their way back from fishing off the waters of Goat Island.

04/08/25 - The G Rollers remained calm, cool, and collected as they rallied to win the 2025 NMIBF 15U Boys Basketball League championship over a strong Prospects 1 team, 54-51, last Friday at the Koblerville Gymnasium.
Despite their head coach, Joe Diaz, being unable to make it to the finals due to health reasons, his team pulled off the win under the guidance of assistant coach T.J. Factor.

04/01/25 - The Marianas High School Dolphins have cemented their dynasty with three consecutive championships in the IT&E Interscholastic Boys' High School Basketball League, bouncing back against formidable rivals, the Saipan Southern High School Manta Rays, in a double-elimination tournament that had the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium rocking with cheers from their supporters.
The entire gym trembled with the intensity of cheers from all sides as supporters from both schools filled the stands with their screams, banners, and chants. The drama and excitement mirrored what was happening on the court, as MHS vied for the title on Friday night and as SSHS fought for a shot at a second and final game on Saturday.
The Manta Rays forced a do-or-die final game after winning the first game, 50-44, on Friday night. The rematch on Saturday morning could have gone either way, but the Dolphins sealed the win in a hotly contested showdown, 48-46.

03/26/25 - The Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium was rocking from the heavy weights lifted and thrown down by 11 gravity-defiers during the NMI Local Weightlifting Competition 2025 last Saturday.
The differently weighted barbells lifted by each athlete represented their dedication, effort, and time spent in their respective sport, with the goal of showcasing their strength, mental and physical fortitude, and testing and pushing the limits of their bodies.
03/25/25 - Francisco M. Sablan Middle School Napu Riders redeemed themselves after clinching the PSS-NMIVA Interscholastic Boys Middle School Volleyball League 2024-2025 title over Tanapag Middle School Tatagas last March 22 at the Marianas High School Gymnasium after falling short last season.
The Napu Riders were runners-up to Agape Christian School last season, but secured it all this season after an undefeated run in the playoffs. They were granted a one-set advantage in the best-of-five championship series over the Tatagas and swept the next two sets to claim the title.
03/24/25 - Two 18-year-old golfers shut down veteran players in their respective divisions in the Northern Marianas College Foundation’s 20th Golf Open last weekend at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort.

03/20/25 - After the CNMI’s youth were deprived of consistent baseball for five years, the Saipan Little League Baseball finally started just last weekend, while another baseball league hopes to take a swing here in the CNMI—the Cal Ripken Baseball League Babe Ruth Inc.
The Guam Cal Ripken Baseball League, which has been in existence there for 56 years, held a presentation and introduction of their nonprofit organization on Wednesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room for the CNMI baseball community and organization leaders, with the goal of creating more opportunities for youth to play baseball.
The presentation was led by Cal Ripken 12U president Roke Alcantara Jr., league commissioner Roke Alcantara Sr., and assistant commissioner Joe Young.
03/19/25 - The smell of spring, the sound of bees buzzing, the swirl of dirt, and the slick of dew on the grass signal the start of baseball season, and this year brings back Little League Baseball after the reformation of the Saipan Baseball League Inc.
After a five-year hiatus, eager children are back on the diamond with a full season of baseball that started last Saturday and Sunday.
There are 10 teams in the major league division (11-12-year-olds), and four teams in the minor league division (9-10-year-olds) that are played at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Baseball Field. At the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field, there are six teams in the junior league division (13-14-year-olds), and three teams in the senior league division (15-16-year-olds).
03/18/25 - The north side is definitely home to the bat-and-ball sport as Tanapag Middle School Lady Tatagas claimed their second softball title in a row—this time in the PSS-NMISA Inaugural Fastpitch Softball 2024-2025 season over a formidable Mount Carmel School Lady Knights team on Saturday at the Dandan Softball Field.
The Lady Tatagas went up against an MCS team that was equally as hungry for the title as the Lady Knights fought and forced their way into a winner-take-all second game, but the sluggers of the north kept their composure and sealed their title with a 14-4 win.
Kyria Ngiraked pitched both games and was rewarded with the championship for her efforts in the final game, where she held down the exhausted Lady Knights. She allowed just four runs and nine hits, while her offense supported her in the fourth inning, scoring eight of their 14 runs, which led to their eventual victory.
03/17/25 - The Lady Geckos of Saipan International School clinched the PSS-NMIFA Girls High School Interscholastic Soccer League 2024-2025 championship for their second title in a row on Thursday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
The season’s most valuable player and SIS’ star striker, Andrei Kaithlyn Chavez, led her team to a 4-2 victory over Saipan Southern High School Lady Manta Rays in a heated match that contrasted the cold and rainy evening. Chavez also won the Golden Boot Award as she scored the most goals in the season at 32.

03/12/25 - The CNMI’s very own Muay Thai team under Saipan’s MCA-MMA Team Primeval competed as Team Micronesia in the 2025 WBC Muay Thai Pan-American Championships in Monterrey, Mexico held last Feb. 13-16, and they did not disappoint as they brought home hardware in their international debut.
Coached under Dr. Tai Doram, 20-year-old Dillan Pomdi and 21-year-old Justin Agulto flew to Mexico to compete internationally featuring over 400 fighters from Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Chile, the United States, Italy, Ecuador, and Venezuela to name a few.
In the 54-58-kg division, Pomdi clinched the silver medal, while in the 60-63.5kg division, Agulto bagged a bronze medal.
03/11/25 - The Koblerville Elementary School Umangs 1 are an undefeated dynasty in the volleyball world as they swept the PSS-NMIVA Co-ed Elementary School Volleyball Tournament 2024-2025 season and capped it off with their fourth straight title last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Umangs 1 clinched the title in a quick final matchup against runners-up San Vicente Elementary School Canaries 1, 21-4. After a 10-point bombardment by the Umangs, it seemed like the game was over as quickly as it had started.
However, the Canaries regrouped and managed to score a few points. Still, the Umangs halted their momentum and scored the final points to seal the victory.
03/10/25 - Their wedding vows must’ve mentioned running marathons together, because a husband-and-wife duo from Japan—Hiroki Nakajima and Tomomi Nakajima—not only ran the 2025 Skechers Saipan Marathon, but dominated the competition last Saturday.
The annual event that sported the full marathon, half-marathon, 10K, and 5K, featured runners of all ages and from around the world with the start and finish lines at the Micro Beach Road, next to the Marianas Beach Resort. Out of the 618 registered participants, 530 showed up, eager to test their endurance, mental and physical fortitude, or simply have fun with family and friends and get their steps in.

03/06/25 - Saipan Southern High School Manta Rays racked up two championships in one day—the co-ed va’a outrigger title, then the 2024-2025 PSS-NMBA Interscholastic Co-Ed High School Badminton League title right after on an overcast yet electric Saturday morning.
03/05/25 - Swimming prodigy and 2024 Northern Marianas Sports Association Male Student-Athlete of the Year, Isaiah Aleksenko, is continuing to grow his list of achievements during his collegiate debut just as it did when he was still a high school student in the CNMI.
The 18-year-old, in his first official collegiate swim meet held last Feb. 6-8, reeled in five gold medals, broke four records, collected the title of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Swimmer of the Month for the second time this season, and for his overall performance in his debut, was named the Sun Conference Swimmer of the Year.
03/04/25 - After many years of only the three public high schools competing in the co-ed outrigger races, Mount Carmel School finally rejoined the competition this season, adding more excitement and competitiveness to the event out on the water.
However, there could only be one winner in each of the three divisions, and Saipan Southern High School's paddlers dominated the season, winning both the boys' and mixed division titles of the 2024-2025 PSS-NMNPSF Interscholastic Co-Ed Outrigger Race last Saturday at Kilili Beach.
03/03/25 - It was a nostalgic trip down memory lane last Thursday, a night celebrating the spectacular and illustrious 40-year history of the Northern Marianas Sports Association and honoring the CNMI’s athletes and their performances in 2024 during the NMSA Annual Awards Banquet at the Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan. The Hibiscus Hall was filled with athletes spanning generations—from living sports legends and current star athletes, to young up-and-coming talents—celebrating CNMI’s sports history and the performances of its athletes in 2024.

02/27/25 - The Pirates defended their SBL Masters League title successfully after winning the best-of-3 championship series against the Brewers in two straight games at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
02/26/25 - Tania Tan returned to the races with even more pep in her step as the usual middle distance/long distance runner took to the indoor 1-mile race at The Circuit NYC and broke the CNMI record with a time of 5:22.51.
02/25/25 - There are only about four months left until the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau, and local sports federations are gearing up and fine-tuning their teams and athletes for the big event.
02/24/25 - A new business is hoping to hit a home run with the community as the only indoor batting cage facility in the CNMI—MC Marianas Batting Alley—held its grand opening last Saturday in Gualo Rai.

02/19/25 - The 2025 NMIBF 15U Basketball League has been underway at the Koblerville Gymnasium since its opening day of games last Saturday.
02/17/25 - Now it can be told, CNMI running streak king Edward Dela Cruz Jr.’s most bizarre run so far was completing a mile while literally having the runs—diarrhea.
That’s just one of the silly adventures the now 33-year-old Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting fireman went through in continuing his eight-year run streak—the longest in the CNMI now encompassing 6,476 miles.

01/22/25 - The tropical climate of Saipan, with its lush jungles and crystal-clear waters, has long attracted athletes seeking a place to train during their off-season and to take a break from their cold winters. Professional baseball teams from Japan and South Korea have taken advantage of Saipan’s proximity and ideal weather conditions, with the latest to train on island are three players from the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Pacific League. These players have been utilizing the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field as part of their off-season regimen.
