This month, we feature Brandon Regis—an overall athlete whose focus is on functional fitness and has also earned podium finishes in different local competitions.
When he was a competitive athlete, he placed third in the open physique division of the 2019 Dee Clayton Classic & Northern Marianas Bodybuilding Federation competition, won first place in the men’s 67kg weight class of the 2020 Northern Marianas Weightlifting Cup, and bagged first place in the 73kg weight class of the 2021 Northern Marianas Weightlifting Cup.
Now a police officer for almost five years at the Department of Public Safety, the 30-year-old has been utilizing the gym for overall functional fitness that also helps him be at peak performance at his job.
He then shared why he chose Latte Built. When he first came back from Washington state, he wanted to join a gym that’s open 24/7, and he’s been a member of Latte Built for over a decade now. From there, he stuck with it because he liked the availability of the gym and the friendly vibes.
Regis said, “At first, I did bodybuilding. From there, I tried to experiment so I went to weightlifting. From there I just tried all different types of sports. But right now I’m just focused on overall fitness more than my aesthetics.” His overall goal, he said, is “to make sure I’m able to perform my job the best I could, whether it’s mentally or physically.”
On why he started his fitness journey, he said he wanted to make a change to his physique when he got out of high school. “I was really under weight. I believe when I first graduated high school, I was 110-115 pounds and I just wanted to change. [I was] pretty much bullied growing up that’s why I started the gym. That’s pretty much been my goal: put on some muscle, some size, build confidence. From there, I just made it a habit and it became a lifestyle, so that’s why I’m here five days a week, two days rest days, and just continue from there,” said Regis.
To those who are looking for a gym or wanting to start their fitness journey, Regis said, “Give this gym a shot. It’s 24 [hour] access. You can’t really go wrong with that. You don’t have to make time out of your day to try to rush to the gym. The gym is always going to be here so that’s very convenient. The vibe here, the staff here, they’re very friendly, they’re very helpful. You don’t really feel intimidated when you’re a new member.”
He recalled the time when he was in Washington and was intimidated to go to the gym, but he said Latte Built has a different vibe and the staff are always willing to help.
