Mr. Joseph King

Science/Engineering Teacher, B213

After receiving his undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering, Mr. King worked for the U.S. Navy as a naval architect doing structural design on a range of boats and ships, from decommissioned submarines to nuclear-powered aircraft carriers. Mr. King then got his teaching degree in the evenings and eventually transitioned to teaching high school full-time. He has been teaching for almost two decades with a several-year break to be an at-home dad for his three children. Mr. King has taught a variety of courses including physics, engineering, astronomy, and programming. Mr. King also coaches the high school Robotics Team. When he isn’t teaching, Mr. King spends his time drawing and playing guitar. 

Mr. Hunter Proulx

Applied Arts Teacher

Mr. Hunter Proulx is an MHS alumnus (2016) who is now an Applied Arts Teacher at Marblehead High School. His course load includes Introduction/Advanced/3D Computer-Aided Drawing, Architecture, and Cartooning/Animation. Hunter received his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he went back to UMass Amherst to receive his Masters in Education in Fall 2021. Through his Master’s degree, Hunter has been trained to be an instructional designer.  Hunter has experience working with landscape architects from around the globe, as well as students pursuing the field of landscape architecture, architecture, and building construction/technologies. Hunter’s professional experience ranges from social media marketing, information technology, social work, and instructional design. Hunter’s hobbies include videography, animation, driving, and sightseeing. 

Mr. Robert Taylor

Woodshop Teacher

Bob is the Woodshop instructor at Marblehead High School. He graduated from Boston University with a degree in Biology. After graduation, he worked for several years as an EKG analyst for a company called Clinical Data. His love of woodworking and carpentry had him return to his father’s traditional trade. He became a carpenter and then a contractor at his own company, RoomCrafter. He came to specialize in custom architectural woodworking, fabricating it in his workshop and then integrating the work into the job site. He is a licensed construction supervisor and has custom installations in both homes and businesses. After thirty years, Bob sold his business and retired. When an opportunity came up to teach in Marblehead, Bob could not resist and he has been working at the high school for the past six years!

Mr. Mike Fu

Math Teacher

Originally from Queens, New York, Michael Fu began his teaching career in 2004 as an inner-city high school mathematics teacher for seven years before moving to New England. Once settled in the Northshore area of Massachusetts, he continued at Salem Academy Charter School where he had the opportunity to teach AP statistics and calculus, and ran AP workshops with the Massachusetts Math Science Initiative. He is now at Marblehead High School where he continues to teach math along with AP computer science A and principles courses. He earned his bachelor of science in Information Systems Engineering from SUNY Stony Brook, and participated in the Teaching Fellows program in NYC to obtain his Master's in Education. His interests include food, technology, science, statistics, sports, art, gaming, and he has recently picked up the niche hobby of sim-racing. 

Mr John Payne

Marine Tech Teacher

Mr. Payne spent 32 years in the Marine Diesel Engine field troubleshooting, repairing, and rebuilding engines, transmissions, fuel injection systems, and other related engine components. Mr. Payne started the Marine Tech program at MHS 17 years ago and it is one of only three programs like it in the entire state of Massachusetts. 

Ms. Lauren Skelton

Special Education Team Chair

Ms. Skelton is Marblehead High School's Director of Special Education and Team Chair.  She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Temple University in Neuroscience and Psychology and then moved to Boston to pursue a career in public health.  In Boston, Lauren worked as a Community Ambassador for John Snow Inc., while also pursuing a Master of Education degree from Northeastern University, specializing in Secondary Science and Special Education.  From there, Ms. Skelton started her first teaching job as a Biology Teacher at Swampscott High School, where she found and fell in love with the North Shore!  Ms. Skelton taught Biology and Special Education at Swampscott High School for 10 years, while also earning a second Master's Degree of Biological Sciences, from Clemson University.  During that time, Lauren also worked to obtain her Special Education Administrative License and decided it was time to move outside of the classroom, to help students and their families obtain equal access to education and make schools more inclusive for all students.  Ms. Skelton worked as the Special Education Administrator for Stoneham Public Schools for two years, before landing her dream job at Marblehead High School!  Lauren is a resident of Marblehead and when she's not at work you can probably find her down at Preston Beach, walking on the Rail Trail, doing Yoga, or playing with her two young children in the backyard!

Ms. Cathy Landergan

Pathway Program Consultant

After nineteen years as a Visual/Applied Arts Teacher, Cathy retired from MHS in 2023. While at MHS she developed the Computer Aided program and still consults to the MET Pathway.
After receiving her B.A. from Clark University, Ms. Landergan enrolled at ITT Technical Institute and received a Mechanical Drawing Certificate. For many years, she was a traditional draftsman and CAD operator, drawing everything from the casting drawings for the park benches on Revere Beach, landscape drawings for Spectacle Island created from the dirt from the Central Artery in Boston, as well as mechanical, structural, piping, and illustration drawings. She was also the CAD and IT Manager for Arrowstreet, a nationally recognized architectural firm, and for many years had her own CAD services company teaching adults AutoCAD as well as acting as an off-site drafting department. Ms. Landergan is also an oil painter, showing her work in galleries in New England. She holds a MAT/Visual Arts from Salem State College. She has been teaching technical drawing and CAD at Marblehead High from 2004 to 2023.

Ms. LouAnn Strangie

Pathway Program Coordinator, Room B109

Ms. Strangie has been a member of the MHS Special Education Department for the past ten years as a Case Manager and co-teacher. She attained her B.S.B.A. from Suffolk University and her M.Ed. in Special Education from Salem State University. Her previous experiences in the airline and business forms industries prompted her to take on a new position as the MHS Pathway Coordinator to earn a Manufacturing Engineering Technology Career Pathway designation from the Department of Education. In this new role, Ms. Strangie works with the Pathway Team to implement and support the pathway program. Additionally, she continues to work with the Special Education Department as a Transition Liaison to assist Case Managers in providing vocational opportunities for students.  Ms. Strangie, a resident of Danvers, enjoys spending time with her four children, their families, her amazing granddaughter, Charlotte, and her Goldendoodle, Henry.
