Other Activities
Try out programming another person or a little figure/animal.
a) Program a Person- I like the idea of the class having to guide the "robot" to the treasure (2nd version of the game described in this post). I might stick with this code: Turn Left, Turn Right, Forward and Backwards as the commands. A turn is when you stay in the same square but change direction. This is how our Beebots are coded also. This post says put down paper to create your grid. You could also use the tiles on the floor.
b) Program a figure/animal/piece of paper - Have each student have a grid on their paper and then program a figure/animal/piece of paper... to get to the treasure (either drawn on the paper or put on with a sticky note so it can change place). Think about obstacles and also do you want to allow students to add in a new command (maybe JUMP?).
IF, THEN Coding Game - great for a whole class
Get Loopy- Use a dance routine to explore loops in coding; Here is a link to the dance moves if you want to show it on the Projector: Get Loopy Dance
Hour of Code at Code.org - Tons of activities. Choose the Pre-Reader tab to filter. The list of iPad apps that are on our iPads is at the bottom.
Below are a few we recommend from Hour of Code:
