When?
Monday, March 9th and Sunday March 15th, 2026 at Maple Lake High School from 6pm - 8pm in the Activity Center (Enter Door H by the back parking lot off of County Road 37).
Who can join?
Our cheerleaders on the 2025-2026 team came from the cities of Maple Lake, Annandale, Delano and the Dassel/Cokato area. However, if you are going to be in grades 7-12 in the 2026-2027 school year, and want to join a Nationally competitive program, we would love to have you! If you can get to our practices, you are good to go!
Who SHOULD join!
Want to cheer in college? If you are thinking of cheering in college, tumbling is a HUGE help! As I've been trying to help this year's seniors with cheering in college, I've found that it is practically required for any of the larger colleges that compete nationally. If you are thinking of cheering in college, competing on a tumbling team that will help build those skills will be a BIG advantage. Not only on the tumbling skills, but also stunting skills where tumbling is a part of the skill (think back handsprings to extension).
Want the experience of competing at Nationals? We have competed at UCA/Varsity and at NFinity Nationals, and in the 2026-2027 season we are planning on competing at the UCA NHSCC National Cheer Competition January 30th and 31st in Orlando (the one you see on ESPN).
Want to build strength or improve your tumbling? For our gymnasts, competition cheerleading is one of the best offseason programs you can do. Not only will you get tumbling instruction weekly, but you will also build the flexibility and core strength to take your athletic ability to the next level!
Want to be a part of a larger program? Last year we had 32 cheerleaders in our 7-12th grade program. It allows us to maximize talent in our stunt groups, and also allows us to do more difficult pyramid sequences.
Want to be a part of a team without the drama? Our family and team-first approach really minimizes drama among our cheerleaders and helps our cheerleaders feel connected and develop friendships that can last a lifetime! Every cheerleader in our program is valued and treated with respect!
What teams do you have?
We will be looking to offer 3 teams at the 7-12th grade level for 2026-2027.
Voltage - A higher commitment traditional nationals team that is put together by our coaching staff whose focus will be to improve our stunting and tumbling and make us competitive at the national level.
Lightning - Our Game Day nationals team will be open to anyone who wants to experience Nationals in Orlando. Girls can compete on one of our traditional teams AND participate on our Game Day team!
Thunderbolts - A lower commitment traditional competitive team that offers more flexibility and less financial cost! This team will compete locally, and is a great place for cheerleaders to experience Bolts Cheer and see if this program is right for you!
Sparks - This is our elementary competitive team. It is open to youth in grades 1-6 in the 2026-2027 school year, and tryouts will be May 3rd!
What will we do during team placement?
We will mostly stunt, but we will be teaching a cheer with stunt incorporation and a dance. We will also tumble as well!
Are there any required skills?
NO! ANYONE CAN BE A GREAT CHEERLEADER, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR BODY TYPE OR EXPERIENCE IS! For our Voltage Nationals team, we are looking to cap it either at 15 or 19, and will be pretty selective in who can be on that team. For our Game Day team, if you are willing to be dedicated and put forth good effort at practices, you will be good to go!
We are a tumbling program. Knowing that, for girls who want to be considered for our top team, tumbling absolutely helps. While there is zero tumbling requirement for any team, it is something we are working towards. We will be working on tumbling each week, and offering extra opportunities for the girls to learn and advance. Our tumbling classes will be focused on cheer tumbling, which will be different than a typical gymnastics class that usually focuses on all the apparatus that gymnasts use.
We support the Maple Lake football team at all home and away games by performing on the sidelines, at halftimes, and at pep fests and other school events. You CAN participate in other sports at Maple Lake High School AND do cheerleading! We are flexible!
These team will perform a 2:30 routine that includes gymnastics, stunting, a cheer, dance, and jumps. The Varsity team is looking to qualify and attend Nationals, held in Orlando Florida! Girls earn spots on this team by being able to positively impact the scoresheet we use at competitions. Our JV team is a place for girls to learn the skills needed for the Varsity/Nationals team. Our program DOES NOT CUT! ALL CHEERLEADERS WILL PERFORM IN OUR ROUTINES!
This team will perform a 2:30 routine that includes gymnastics, stunting, and a cheer and jumps. That is similar to the older cheerleader's routine. The elementary season is shorter, running from September through early February.
