for wellbeing and literacy in schools
The Paper Pack Club is a therapeutic, peer‑led reading programme that simultaneously strengthens literacy and supports mental‑health and wellbeing in schools.
How it works
Selected students receive immersive training to become Club Mentors. Each mentor is paired with a younger pupil for weekly one‑to‑one reading sessions.
Tools & approach
The pairs use bespoke flashcards that blend Reading for Pleasure pedagogy with Emotion Coaching techniques. This combination deepens comprehension, fuels enthusiasm for reading and helps pupils build emotional literacy.
In short, the club turns older students into confident reading buddies who uplift younger learners’ skills and self‑confidence while fostering a culture of empathy and wellbeing across the school.
"The training was excellent. Jess was informative and engaging, encouraging the students to evaluate and consider the programme and reflect on how the Y8 students could be supported."
"Jess creates a quick rapport with the students so that they feel comfortable to participate and ask questions. The range of activities are good and delivered at a pace which makes them both engaging and meaningful."
