ACADEMIC QUESTIONS
A passing grade at MHS is a 65 or above.
Absences are cumulative and can result in a reduction of credit. MHS will record daily attendance as a means to determine credit loss. Credit loss is calculated based on cumulative unexcused daily absences at the end of the academic school year.
Absence from a class period for more than 10 minutes will result in an absence being recorded for the entire class, unless the student is absent due to a school counselor’s appointment, a school-mandated meeting, or is seeking medical attention in the school nurse’s office.
A school tardy is defined as a student arriving to class after 7:25 a.m. Four (4) unexcused school tardies will result in an unexcused absence and subject to credit loss determinations. Every fourth time a student achieves an unexcused tardy they will be assessed another unexcused absence.
See the MHS Student-Parent handbook for more details.
There are 19 Advance Placement courses at MHS.
None are open to Freshman, but a few are open to Sophomores.

Great question!
Use these resources to see your options.
NO! There are lots of electives outside the core academic areas such as electives in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Business and Technology, and others. Choose courses that are of interest to you.
Do I have to take PE or Wellness?
Yes you do! You will need to take a one semester course each year.
Grade 9: Introduction to Wellness
Grade 10: Introduction to Fitness
Grade 11: Health Dynamics
Grade 12: PE or Wellness class of your choice
That depends on what the rest of your schedule looks like. Most freshmen will have room in their schedule for 3-one semester elective courses of their choice.
Here is one possible schedule. Every student will have a unique schedule.
YES!
For incoming Freshman, there are honors electives in ELA, Science, Civics, and Math. For most of them, you will need the recommendation from your grade eight teacher. If your teacher recommends you for an honors elective, you do not need to take the honors level.
Check the listing of electives to find them.
