Students must meet the eligibility criteria for one of seven categories. In some PSD categories, eligibility guidelines require administration of standardised assessments liaised by either the college or through your child's pediatrician or allied health professional.
The categories students can be funded under includes;
Physical disability
Visual impairment
Hearing impairment
Severe behaviour disorder
Intellectual disability
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Severe language difficulties with critical educational needs.
Students who need assessment for the categories of intellectual disability and severe language disorder with critical educational needs must be referred for assessment, to Assessments Australia, the Department’s assessment service provider.
As a school we are responsible for submitting PSD applications for our students if they meet eligibility criteria. Only one application can be made per year for the student.
It is essential that effective educational planning and support be undertaken for every student with disability and a Student Support Group (SSG) is mandatory for students in the PSD, and strongly encouraged for any students with additional learning needs. The SSG is the holistic partnership between schools, parents/carers, the student and relevant agencies. The group works together to plan and support the educational, health, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing of students with diverse learning needs.
For any Additional Educational Needs Support, please contact Maleesa Yanni directly at the college or via email at Maleesa.Yanni@education.vic.gov.au
