Middle School cte Course Guide

Within each Career Pathway, courses are further divided into Programs of Study (POS).  

Each POS offers the opportunity for students to earn an endorsement in Business and Industry, or STEM. 

Not CTE ( Code 4)

A student who never enrolled or did not complete any Middle School CTE courses.

CTE Participant (Code 5)

A student completing EITHER: Only one CTE course for any number of credits; OR More than one course for less than two credits. 

CTE Explorer (Code E)

 A student completing two or more high school CTE courses for a total of two or more credits and not a participant, concentrator or completer. 

CTE Concentrator (Code 6)

A student completing and passing two or more  CTE courses for a total of at least two credits within the same program of study and not a completer.

CTE Completer (Code 7)

A student completing and passing three or more CTE courses for a total of four or more credits within a program of study, including one level three or level four course from within the same program of study. 

Manor Independent School District (MISD) offers career and technical education programs in Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; Architecture and Construction; Arts, A/V Technology and Communications; Business, Marketing and Finance; Education and Training; Health Science; Hospitality and Tourism; Human Services; Information Technology; Law and Public Service; Manufacturing; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Transportation, Distributions and Logistics. Admission to these programs is based on interest and aptitude, age appropriateness, and availability of space in programs.

 PRINCIPLES OF ARTS, A/V, TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNICATIONS (This course is offered for Manor Middle School/Decker Middle School/Manor New Tech Middle School)

Course Description:  Aligned with the 2015 Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the Principles of Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications course scope and sequence within the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications cluster summarizes the content to be taught and presents one possible order for teaching the units of instruction. A brief description of each unit and the corresponding TEKS is included. This scope and sequence may be adapted or adopted by the local education agency. 

FOUNDATIONS OF USER EXPERIENCE (UX) (This course is offered for Manor Middle School)

Course Description: In Foundations of User Experience (UX), students obtain an understanding of UX designers, key notions and factors involved in the conception of UX design solutions and design tools applied across the process. Students will gain knowledge of introductory observation and research skills; basic design thinking and defined empathy methodologies; collaborative problem-solving and ideation; and interaction usability and solution development (includes digital tools). The knowledge and skills acquired enable students to identify real-world problems through research and data-driven investigation to design solutions while participating in collaborative problem solving. Students are introduced to agile and methodologies to develop skills to take the solutions from conceptual sketch to digital designs using professional software tools. Students will explore how to improve the quality of user interactions and perceptions of products, experiences, and any related services.

Course Description:  Career and technical education (CTE) instruction provides content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills for students to further their education and succeed in current or emerging professions.  The goal of this course is to help students build career awareness and engage in deep exploration and study of the Texas CTE career clusters to create a foundation for success in high school, possible postsecondary studies, and careers. Students research labor market information, learn job seeking skills, and create documents required for employment. 

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT  I (BIM)   (This course is offered for Manor Middle School)

Course Description:  In Business Information Management I, students implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society and make a successful transition to the workforce and postsecondary education. Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies, create word-processing documents, develop a spreadsheet, formulate a database, and make an electronic presentation using appropriate software.

Course Description: : Agribusiness Management and Marketing is designed to provide a foundation to agribusiness management and the free enterprise system. Instruction includes the use of economic principles such as supply and demand, budgeting, record keeping, finance, risk management, business law, marketing, and careers in agribusiness.

Course Description: This course provides an overview of the various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and their interrelationships. Students will have an understanding of the various fields and will be able to make informed decisions regarding a coherent sequence of subsequent course and will have worked on a design team to develop a product or system.

Course Description:  The exciting world of aerospace comes alive through the Flight and Space (FS) unit. Students become engineers as they design, prototype, and test models to learn about the science of flight and what it takes to travel and live in space.
