Pickup is promptly at 4:45 pm in the front lobby. A late fee will be incurred for any late pick-ups.
It is recommended to pack your child an afternoon snack, as most clubs allow time to eat while students are filing in and attendance is being taken.
After School Program Coordinator is Jami Morrison; jmorrison@mandeljds.org.
Please note the dates of “No Class” for each activity. While most activities align with our school calendar, some activities run on a different schedule. Jami recommends adding the “No Class” dates to your personal calendar.
Power of the Pen is a statewide writing competition for middle school students. With a pen, a prompt, and a 40 minute timer, students are asked to write creative stories with interesting characters, compelling conflicts, and rich settings. Each week students will receive a “micro-lesson” in writing followed by a 40 minute practice writing round. Additionally, 7th and 8th grade students will aim to qualify and compete in tournaments at the district, regional, and state level. Students with other after school activities, such as soccer, are welcome to join! Missing a day of writing practice doesn’t disqualify you from competing!

Learning to play a musical instrument is beneficial to brain development, motor coordination, and cognitive skills. Playing that instrument with a group of other young musicians provides valuable social and emotional connections. Concert Band is a music ensemble open to all 6th through 8th graders that will prepare students for High School Marching Band. The instruments that will make up the Concert Band are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. Participants will need to have an instrument to practice at home, as well as, bring it to school on rehearsal days. For more information, contact Allison Ritley.
There may be additonal fees for instrument rentals.
