Advisory

Advisory at HMX

Middle grade students grow, change, learn, and experience challenges across a diverse continuum.

Advisory will provide a space to learn skills that empower students to experience resilience through the peaks and valleys. It will serve as a place where students can experience a sense of continuity, belonging in a small and consistent group.

Advisory Update

In the month of April, Advisory classes are focused on the theme of Valuing Diversity and Friendship. We are discussing the sorts of differences that may define our experiences, like differences in language, religion, race and culture, and looking at ways that we can build relationships and alliances across difference. We are also exploring building lasting friendships, and thinking about the qualities that we cherish in our friends. We invite you to continue these conversations at home.

This spring, in partnership with Sheldrake Nature Center, our 8th grade Advisory classes will participate in the collaborative Mindful Nature Project. Naturalists from the center will discuss the benefits of spending time outdoors, and guide the groups as they create ephemeral nature mandalas.
