Course: Algebra 1 Part A
Location: Maine South
Offered: Semester 1, Semester 2
For: 10th, 11th, 12th grade
Credit: 0.5 each semester
Prerequisite: Credit Recovery Only
Students who have received an unsatisfactory grade during the regular school year may repeat the course during summer school.
Algebra 1 Part A is a thorough review of the fundamentals of arithmetic integrated with a modern introduction to algebra. Approximately one-half of a first course in algebra is completed.

Algebra 1 Part B is the second half of a first course in algebra. The topics include graphing of linear and quadratic functions and inequalities, systems of equations, and quadratic functions and applications.

Algebra 1 is the study of the properties of real numbers, fundamental operations with real numbers, linear and quadratic equations, systems of equations and inequalities, graphs of relations and functions, and problem- solving. Students learn about the abstract development of algebra and acquire computational skills that will enhance problem-solving.

Algebra 2 is the study of linear and quadratic equations, systems of equations, matrices and determinants, functions (linear, quadratic, inverse, exponential, logarithmic, polynomial, and rational), powers, roots, radicals, and quadratic relations.

Students learn and apply the basic properties and relationships of points, lines, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, transformations, and solid figures with numerical problems that integrate arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. Students apply logic and deductive reasoning in a proof-based approach to geometry concepts.

Students learn and apply the basic properties and relationships of points, lines, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, transformations, and solid figures with numerical problems that integrate arithmetic, algebra, and geometry. Students apply logic and deductive reasoning in a transformational-based approach to geometry concepts.
Course: Introduction to Computer Science
Location: Online with one in-person session at Maine West
Offered: Semester 1
For: 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grade
Credit: 0.5
Prerequisite: Access to PC or Mac computer. Chromebooks cannot be used for this course.
This course covers basic data types, input/output statements, basic math operations, random values, conditional statements, and loops. Students are prepared for computer science using Java. Links to all course materials/deadlines will be provided via email prior to the beginning of summer school. All course materials, including software, are free. Instructions detailing how to install the required software and turn in assignments will be emailed prior to the first class and can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/skipOrientation
In-person session: (at Maine West):
June 10 , 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
**Students who can successfully install the required software and turn in a straightforward programming assignment before the June 10th start date do not need to attend the orientation day on June 10.
