*Students please DO NOT complete any of these hospital specific instructions until you receive an email from the department notifying you of your specific clinical placement day/time and instructor.*
ACTION STEP #1: Complete CCPS (Centralized Clinical Placement System)
Students NEW to CCPS who have never used it before
You will register as a new student user with your @maine.edu account. Review the Detailed Instructions listed on the page - For students certifying for the first time
The site will guide you through completing four education modules. Each module consists of information to read and then a module quiz. These modules may take you several hours to complete, but you can leave and return, doing this in smaller chunks of time if you need to. You must complete all four module quizzes.
Once you have completed all four module quizzes see a page with a blue box at the bottom. In the blue box click on "click here to add an assignment to the list".
Fill in the information about your clinical assignment. You can leave the "click here if this is a precepted assignment" box empty. Then submit the form.
Now you will see a page with Spring Harbor specific information. At the bottom of the page highlighted in yellow is a link "Spring Harbor". Click on it.
You can now read all of the Spring Harbor specific documents. Nursing Student Orientation to Therapeutic Group Programming and SHH Nursing Student Orientation Manuel.
The Student Orientation Manual is lengthy BUT it is filled with vital information. Please take time to read it completely before your clinical. Pay careful attention to policies, particularly around dress code, student role, and student participation.
IMPORTANT: at the bottom of the Spring Harbor page there is an acknowledgment and checkbox you must submit to indicate you have reviewed all the documents. Submitting this will generate a "ticket" of completion that shows you've finished CCPS for that facility.
You do not need to print or save this ticket. USM can see who has them in CCPS from our end of things.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT ANY DOCUMENTS BACK TO USM
RETURNING CCPS Student Users who have attended a prior clinical that used CCPS
Go to https://www.mass.edu/mcncps/orientation/welcome.asp and login to your existing CCPS account.
If it has been more than a year since you last completed the four CCPS modules/quizzes you will need to complete them again. If it has been less than a year you won't need to redo the modules and you'll be taken directly to the "add a clinical assignment to the list" page.
In the blue box choose "click here to add an assignment to the list".
Fill in the information about your clinical assignment. You can leave the "click here if this is a precepted assignment" box empty. Then submit the form.

COMPUTER TRAINING: If you have already been EPIC Trained as a student at MMC Portland or Biddeford (formerly SMHC) or Mid Coast hospitals, you do not need any further computer training. If you have NOT been EPIC trained as a student you will get an email with further EPIC training instructions from Stacey Whitney, Clinical Coordinator.
WAIT to use those instructions until you receive an email from MHIT_AccountServices@mainehealth.org with your MaineHealth computer login credentials, once it is created. This email might show up in your spam folder, and it will likely be sent the week before your clinical starts.
The EPIC Training PDF is also in the CCPS Spring Harbor facility specific documents; ignore the training until you receive your MaineHealth credentials.
PARKING: The East lot to the right of the building is reserved for staff working the evening and night shift. Employees working the day shift will park in the West lot to the left of the building in the rear. Students who are here for a clinical rotation during the day must park in the West lot. Those students whose clinical rotation ends after 7:00 p.m. may park in the East lot. Students will enter the building from the front lobby entrance.
BADGING: Students will enter the hospital in the front lobby. Students will sign-out a student badge and keys from the staff at the front desk. Students will return the badge and keys at the end of each clinical day/evening at the front desk in the lobby. Students may not leave hospital grounds with a SHH student badge or keys.
CLINICAL LETTER FROM FACULTY: Information about where to go and what to bring on the first day of clinical will be shared by your instructor in the course Brightspace a week or so before the clinical begins.
QUESTIONS: If you have any questions please contact Stacey Whitney. stacey.whitney@maine.edu
