Learn how to enter or approve time. We all have responsibility for entering our time, whether it is all of our hours (for non-exempt job roles) or vacation or sick-time usage. Managers also have the responsibility of approving time for their team. Here are some Payroll "How-To" Articles, which contain detailed info on all things Payroll-related, including how to enter/approve time.
The Payroll office, which manages all employee accounts, can assist with any information changes or updates. They can be reached at either payroll@maine.edu or 207.581.9104.
Select your Tax Withholding by completing your W-4. Access to this in your MaineStreet Self-Service account only becomes available as of your first day on the job. Once it has been processed, your paychecks moving forward will reflect your specific choice. Until then, the default Tax Withholding is single and no adjustments.
Select any Voluntary Deductions for Retirement you would like to make. Access to this in your MaineStreet Self-Service account only becomes available as of your first day on the job. UMS' public higher education status meaningfully and generously sets us apart. Our employees have two avenues: 457 and 403(b), plus you are able to select between pretax and Roth options. When you select your voluntary deduction preferences, your paychecks moving forward after processing time will reflect your choices.
Obtain Your Parking Pass, ID Badge, and Keys (if applicable). Details on how to request these items are included in your ‘Welcome to UMF: Next Steps for Onboarding’ email.
Please complete your required Compliance Training and confirm completion with your manager. Please note that access to some programs/data or activities is dependent on proof of completion, such as completing FERPA training for access to student data.
Access Emergency Notification Subscriptions. Please select your emergency alert preferences here.
Please review key University of Maine System Policies: Several relevant policies are encompassed within your required Compliance Training. Please talk to your manager about other UMS policies and any uniquely relevant to your job role.
Engage with your Manager around important Job Orientation conversations. These relational and intentional conversations accelerate your ability to be successful.
Check with your manager to confirm you have access to all job‑specific technologies you’ll need. These tools vary by role, and your manager can guide you on what’s required.
Each of these tasks constitute "work" by definition within UMS. If you have questions about what constitutes "work" before you are scheduled to start, please contact your manager or supervisor.
