Important Link(s) for New Members of the UMS Community
UMS comprises seven universities plus the Maine Law School, an additional 31 course sites and Cooperative Extension. Serving ~30,000 students, our ~5,500 UMS employees contribute their great talents along with students' to create our special and inclusive learning cultures. We have a central governing office led by the Chancellor who reports to the Maine state Governor-appointed Board of Trustees.
Some divisions within the University of Maine System (UMS) are centrally-led and serve all of our Universities & Maine Law. For instance, Information Technology (IT), Human Resources (HR), Finance, our General Counsel’s Office, Procurement, Safety Management and more.
Having a multiple campus structure combined with central functions means that UMS operates as a matrix organization that is unified in its accreditation as of CY2020. One matrix dynamic is that some job roles report directly to their functional leader and also serve one/more campuses. These groups are Shared Services.
You might be a member of a Shared Services team or you might be in a role held by a campus. All of our roles help make UMS a great experience for our students!
Our matrix structure in combination with our ongoing efforts to maximize our unified identity means regular, meaningful conversations are important to align and maximize collaborative, supportive decision-making that prioritizes students.
Helpful Facts for those in our Shared Services functions:
· The ~390 UMS Shared Services team members are located at every campus, by design
· Most Shared Services roles align to the UMS Non-represented Employee Handbook
· Shared Services roles have a unique Human Resources support team:
