I have a double first name and a double major in Studio Art and English with concentrations in Painting and Creative Writing - plus a minor in Art History. I'm an intern with the Writing Center at University of Maine and a former McGillicuddy Humanities Center fellow.
My research across disciplines, both academic and creative, focuses on issues of gender expression, cultural heritage, and the importance of how visual, written, and oral languages are uniquely bound to an individual's identity and the ways they communicate. I enjoy learning new genres of both art and writing and how to effectively use them to reach targeted audiences.
Before attending the University of Maine, I worked in the maritime industry for over a decade aboard traditionally rigged sailing vessels teaching environmental science and experiential education. I have lived all over the world including Canada, England, and Ecuador.
I have returned to my hometown, Belfast, Maine, where my domestic partner and I are putting down roots, both literally and figuratively. We have a small-ish apple orchard in Waldo county and I have six baby pear trees and plans for sheep, pigeons, and bees. Outside of my academic and studio practices, I enjoy embroidery, miniatures, long-distance cycling, getting lost in the woods, and making up songs for my three cats: Irma, Robert, and Muriel - my mewses.
