Citation Management
Citation Management FAQ
What is a citation manager?
A citation manager is a program that helps users organize and format their sources and citations. They usually allow users to import citations from various catalogs or databases, but users can also create their own citations.
Why use a citation manager?
Citation managers are great tools that help you stay organized when managing your citations and research. Many citation managers also offer word processing extensions that allow you to effortlessly insert in-text citations and create bibliographies from those citations.
When should I use a citation manager?
Using a citation manager to facilitate research endeavors is incredibly helpful when trying to organize information and sources. Citation managers can help you properly format your citations, either in a bibliography or in-text. Even though citation managers are great tools when writing a research paper or putting together a literature review, even using them for smaller assignments is a good way to establish a consistent habit of responsible citation management.
Which citation manager is right for me and my research?
Try experimenting with different platforms. There are more programs than those listed here. Some are free, some have premium features that might be crucial for your research. If you are new to citation management, try using a free software like Zotero first and go from there.
