In March of 2023, while I was teaching Literature, my students and I conducted an analysis, evaluating 'The Return' by Ngugi Wa Thiong'o, an important author whose works study themes of post-colonialism, African identity, and the impact of colonialism. He is renowned for his prolific writing in both English and Gikuyu, his literary contributions have significantly influenced African literature.
Following the analysis, I emailed the renowned author, and after many attempts, he agreed to a brief lecture with my Grade 9 ELA class.
While Teaching at HSNU , I served as the organizer for a professional development seminar titled 'What Role Do Literacy and Culture Play in Fostering Educational Equality?' alongside Dr. Melinda Butler, Chair of the Department of Literacy, Language, and Culture at the University of Southern Maine.
The seminar focused on how literacy, language, and culture contribute to advancing SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).
This experience allowed my students to engage with critical global issues, exploring strategies to promote gender equality through literacy and language education.
I have taken part in several professional development workshops led by Taiwan's top senior and vocational high schools and the Ministry of Education.
These opportunities allowed me to enhance my skills and stay updated with the latest educational practices in the Taiwanese Educational system.
