This project was started with the goal of inspiring people to develop a love and appreciation for the natural world.
The UMF Campus Garden project represents a real experiential learning opportunity for students to get their hands dirty (sometimes literally). It's a campus green space designed by students, built by students, and maintained by students! The garden is a place for relaxation, development of spiritual health, and fostering greater connections between each other and to the environment.
Here in the garden, we grow food for the hungry. Harvested crops are donated to food closets and organizations for the community and put out on our "Harvest Hutch" for UMF students, staff, faculty, and Farmington community members.
The UMF Campus & Community Garden is now in its fifth year. So far we have harvested nearly 500 pounds of organic vegetables, donated to different community food banks. and UMF community members.
In our second year, we added a garden shed and greenhouse! Our 2025 year, we added an organic composting station, prominent signage, and a harvest hutch.
Our seed funding came from a grant through the Boston-based Ella Lyman Cabot Trust. If you'd like to plant the seeds for further success in the garden, you can contribute to the UMF Garden to Table Project Fund.
