We have had some bountiful harvests this summer so far. Our onion crop has proven to be the most plentiful so far! Help yourself to anything you see!
Located in Old Town, ME, Roger's Farm serves as an example of creative and innovative gardening themes and unique plant varieties. They are free to visit and are open from dawn to dusk, 7 days a week.Â
Roger's Farm thrives on volunteers and donations. If you are interested in one of those two, visit https://extension.umaine.edu/penobscot/home-gardening/rogers-farm/#donate or contact katherine.garland@maine.edu!
We have recently been harvesting more and more produce every time we step foot in the garden.
I can't wait to see what our eggplants turn out like (it's my first time growing eggplant!)
While we get through this very hot and dry spell, our garden crew is battling some wilted plants and the beginnings of mold.
We are learning more each day about the proper amounts + time of watering for each garden bed.
The Red Milkweed Beetle

is specialized to feed only on milkweed.
consumes milkweed's toxic chemicals
is bright red to warn predators of its danger due to said toxins.
Garlic, Garlic, Garlic!Â
Garlic tends to be ready for harvesting towards the end of July and early August. We got to harvest ours today (7/28), and now it is curing in the greenhouse. We can't wait to see how many pounds of garlic we have grown this year!
We had a great visit with Kate, who gave us the space to share our mission and connection to the community. Kate shared with us a training invitation to be the next Master Gardener Volunteer through the UMaine Extension. If this interests you, check out the Master Gardener Volunteer Project!
We also harvested our first two cucumbers of the season! Be on the lookout for many more produce coming your way!
We harvested over 12 lbs of lettuce early this May! All of the lettuce was planted in the greenhouse and grew over the cold winter months.
First harvest of the year!
We are excited to be part of the 2025 Fiddlehead Festival this May.
Join us for activities in the garden! Come say hi and hang out with our lovely garden crew.
We are in the process of having our pollinator beds be certified through the UMaine Cooperative Extension Service Certified Pollinator Friendly Garden.
Bee Boxes provide shelter for pollinators! Our space will also provide water sources, food sources, and safeguard practices for pollinators!
Keep an eye out for our journey in certifying our pollinator spaces! In the future, we hope to have more signage surrounding this process!
