External power dynamics are the established relationships and interactions between two groups: professors and students, instructors and tutors, a grading system and an education system. To facilitate a more welcoming Writing Center environment, these dynamics need to be reexamined and molded into new forms.
Internal power dynamics are personal expectations applied to work and academics. For example, acknowledging that a tutor or professor may not have all the specialized knowledge necessary to immediately understand a student's work breaks a power dynamic, allowing for a more organic education experience.
