Brief introduction
Stella Matutina was established over half a century ago. Over the years, our school, imbued with the spirit of love and religious sacred love, has upheld the belief in grooming its students in ways that they would joyfully dedicate themselves to spreading love to all communities so that those who need help may feel warm and loved by the Lord. Back in 2012, Principal Sister Chu of Stella Matutina accepted from Mongolia’s Catholic Bishop Huang a challenging proposal of fundraising for new schools to be set up with new windows installed in Mongolia. With the aim at promoting local education, the Religious Counselling Office at Stella Matutina started the activity of “sending love to Mongolia” through fundraising.
Donations from the teachers and students had helped Bishop Huang one step closer to fulfilling his dream of building schools with new windows installed. All the love and donations had moved Bishop Huang immensely that on the second year he pushed forward another new project named “Painting a rainbow across Mongolia”, helping raise funds to have schools painted new and encouraging students to offer their services as volunteers in Mongolia.
All the above served as the prelude to international volunteer groups in our school. In 2014, Interact Club initiated a project called “Sim-bodia, Simple Dreams (a pun intended in Chinese): Simple Dreams in Cambodia”, in cooperation with Vision Youth Association, to provide English teaching services incorporating aesthetic arts, cuisine arts and the interaction between beauty and power in Cambodia, With all different activities provided simultaneously, this project had become versatile and enriched students’ servicing experience.
With extensive and persistent service passion from Mongolian International Volunteer Group, a new undertaking between Mongolian counterpart and Stella Matutina was brought to life in 2014 with a task for Stella Matutina to send books to Mongolia and in the following year, 2015, another one to give out blankets to Mongolian students to warm up their hearts. Through these undertakings, Stella Matutina and Mongolian counterpart have slowly but surely set up the communication bridge for all sorts of exchanges.
In Cambodia, the “Sim-bodia, Simple Dreams: Simple Dreams in Cambodia” has been in teaching service locally for 3 years. The passion and enthusiasm of the teachers and students remain strong. Since 2016, Stella Matutina has started working with Hung-Jen Catholic Girls’ High School in Chia-Yi City to provide diversified services, including helping record complete local epic archives, in Northern Thailand.
Through volunteering, our students not only have gained further understanding of those local cultures, but also have learned how to interview people, set up archives and decorate museums of fine arts. What our volunteers have done may seem a small step, but it signifies a giant leap to their learning experience: they experience living a simple life, learn the war-time spirit and familiarize themselves with the extraordinary deeds of heroes in war times.
“Love is beyond borders." Stella Matutina’s teachers and students have always and continuously upheld their belief in international volunteerism by dedicating their life and time to caring for youngsters and accompanying elders. Throughout the whole process, they are in turn cultivating themselves morally and virtuously, and internalizing their hearts to be tenderer and their action to be more amicable. They have also learned to appreciate and cherish their good fortune, and further to pay forward their love. Thus they have realized the ultimate mission of Stella Matutina founded as a religious establishment, which is “the Lord is love and let live a life in love.”

Overseas Study Tour
With the rapid intensification of globalization, many schools have shown an interest in supporting students to extend their cross-cultural understanding and communication skills for learning with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Study tours can provide such support. No matter how diverse their backgrounds, our students share one thing in common: a willing to try new things and take an adventurous spirit of learning. As our students seek academic advancement, they can also improve their English language skills and benefit from cultural exchange and understanding. Therefore this is an open window opportunity to make friends with the world. For this decade, SMGHS has the overseas study tour as follows:
Australia & New Zealand
U.S.A.
Canada
England & Italy
