The school nurse is able to give any medications to students at school if the procedures below have been followed. All medicines should be delivered to the school nurse in a pharmacy or manufacturer labeled container by a parent or responsible adult whom you designate. CHILDREN ARE NEVER ALLOWED TO TRANSPORT ANY MEDICATION IN THEIR BACKPACK. Please ask the pharmacy to provide separate bottles for school and home. No more then a 30 day supply of the medicine should be delivered to school. You will be notified at the end of the school year on when to pick up any remaining medication. Any medication left over the summer will be discarded.

Prescription and Over-the-counter medications:
Can be given to students in school by the school nurse and requires both a doctor's order and parent authorization for each medication.
Short Term Prescription Prescription Medication:
Short term medications, such as antibiotics , can be given by the nurse using the prescriptions bottle's label and requires a parent authorization only.
Standing Order Medications:
Medfield Public schools has several over-the-counter medications that have been ordered by the school physician to be administered to students with a parents authorization. The parent must sign the authorization on the Emergency Health Information Form that is sent home at the beginning of the year(see below). Medications that can be given with these standing orders include:
Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, Tums, Caladryl, Hydrocortisone onitment, Orabase, Antibiotic ointment(Bacitracin), Cough drops with menthol and sunscreen.
