What are norms procedures are and why I am implementing them and who decides them and how
An organized classroom not only tells the students what is expected from them in their own desks or in the classroom, but it is a vital room in classroom management. It creates a sense of ease in students by incorporating a clear set of expectations, a schedule that offers a sense of knowing what is to come for students, and the ability to transition quickly and effectively as the teacher and the student. I will use posters to build classroom community, provide clear expectations, provide visuals of what is next with a schedule and Calander with important dates. I will provide natural colors and not too much busy decorations as to provide a clam environment mostly free from distractions and allow space for movement breaks and movement within lessons. I will have a board up to promote students to put up work they are proud of versus work that I have chosen as great work.
To prepare for the first day of school I will create an organized classroom with Mutiple means of seating and tables available. I will pre-prep the day full of classroom community building with lots of group activates, get to know you games, and a specific time to learn each others names and how to pronounce them. I will allow time for a read aloud and set up a social contract with the students to set clear expectations of what is acceptable from day one. We will use the rest of the week to review expectations for the classroom and go over our typical schedule and what that will look like during the year, My main priority during the first few days is getting to know the students and creating a space that all feel like they are part of a classroom community. The second priority is to set up expectations for what is looks like to be in Mrs. Walters Classroom.
To create initial contact with parents I will send out an email to each parent as well as have these printed out during open house. (https://www.canva.com/design/DAF0cRSskgk/kWIQ2ol3h6xddO_wdZmN-A/edit?utm_content=DAF0cRSskgk&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=sharebutton ) I will make sure that my email is listed as well as my classroom number with extension letting them know all school hours as well as 1 hours each day after school they will receive a prompt reply but outside those hours they are not garneted an immediate reply.
We will set up a class blog for parents to see what is going on each week that will be updated each week with a few snippets and pictures after forms are signed. They will have the opportunity to comment or given a prompt to respond each week to keep the communication two way. As well as I will try and provide opportunities for parents to visit the classroom, enjoy parties, and be a part of our classroom community as well.
