This classroom is for learning and fun: Create a space that everyone feels welcome and accepted so tehy can learn and enjoy school!
Entry Routine: Establish a consistent routine for the start of class. This might include students taking their seats, settling in, and then coming together for a morning meeting and sharing some good things together to establish a positive aspect of the morning.
Materials Management: Implement a system for managing classroom materials. This might involve designated places for books, rulers, markers, extra paper. as well as having extras as needed in one place around the room.
Hand signals: Sign language T for using the bathroom to distinguish it from raising a hand to answer a question. Number signal for checking for understanding, thumb meter for checking for understanding.
Transition Signals: Use signals or cues to indicate transitions between activities or topics. For example, a bell, a countdown timer, or specific music can indicate the end of one task and the beginning of another.
Dismissal Routine: Have a clear procedure for the end of the class. This might include ensuring the room is tidy, packing up materials, and waiting for the teacher's signal to leave.
These norms and procedures will be discussed with students at the beginning of the year. I will encourage their input and make adjustments as necessary. Consistency and clarity in enforcing these norms and procedures will help create a positive and productive classroom environment.
