Collaboration on Google Slides
Students can not work effectively on collaboration slides. Even if you tell them to no mess with their classmates slides they will. Some others won't do anything and say that someone deleted or wrote something that was in his/her slide.
Using Drawings and pictures on Google Slides
When it comes to collaborate on a Slide show as a class students won't work effectively, but assigning them individually they will. I recently gave my students one activity I learned about on Eric's YouTube page, and they students loved it. The classroom was very silent and they were all working individually on their drawing. After they finished they compared their drawings and even helped each other to finish the description in Spanish. I will totally recommend trying new online activities. Kids these days love online stuff.
Classroom Management Observation
As a new teacher classroom management has been really hard for me. I want to be the nice cool teacher, but if I do that kids just get the idea that they can go over my classroom rules, if I scream to them they could be silent for few seconds then the talking starts again. As I was watching Rob's video I thought he was actually describing my situation. This is when I realize that the way the kids enter my classroom is not correct. As he said, they might come from a highly active lesson and letting them in that way will make them think that they are in charge. I think the example he uses could be effective. It might work because having the kids to come down outside the classroom before they enter could help to they them that their other class is over and they need to start behaving to the rules of our class. Reminding them the rules for our classroom could be the effective way to be in control of the class, to remind them that you are the teacher. Screaming to students is not the best way to manage the classroom, neither it is screaming louder or sending them outside or to the office. Talk to them and present yourself to them as the teacher, they one who makes the rules and the decisions.
