Once admitted, use this checklist to stay on top of Graduate School requirements.
Review all policies of the Graduate School in the Graduate School handbook. It is your responsibility to be aware of all policies and how they impact you.
Courses for your MSE must be completed within 8 years of graduation. This includes transfer credits. If you have transfer credits that are more than 8 years old before you graduate, you will need to take the course (or the FHSU equivalent) again prior to graduation.
Effective Spring 2019, graduation from AEP programs, including the MSE/ESOL program, requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher in graduate coursework. Candidates with GPAs at or below 3.25 will be notified that they are at-risk and will be supported by advisers in working to raise their GPAs.
Follow the instructions here for filing intent to graduate. The form is available in TigerTracks. On the form is a place to check that you will be taking the comprehensive exam this semester. Additional information about comprehensive exams is available here. Some states have additional requirements in addition to graduating from this program. For instance, Kansas requires you take and pass the ETS Praxis English as a Second Language test in addition to graduating if you want to add the ESOL endorsement to your current teaching license. Check with your state department of education to see if they require anything in addition to graduation.
NOTE: THE COMPREHENSIVE EXAM IS REQUIRED TO GRADUATE FROM FHSU. THE PRAXIS ESOL TEST MAY OR MAY NOT BE REQUIRED BY YOUR STATE FOR LICENSURE. THESE ARE TWO DIFFERENT TESTS.
Completing the ESOL ENDORSEMENT?
For those of you only completing the 15 hours of the ESOL endorsement, you also need to check with your state department of education to see if there are additional requirements before you can add the ESOL endorsement to your current teaching license. For instance, Kansas requires you take and pass the ETS Praxis ESOL test before you can add the ESOL endorsement to your current Kansas teaching license.
