I'm a CSU Chico Graduate, and a California Credentialed Teacher with 10 years of classroom experience. While I have spent a majority of my career teaching 8th grade math, I have also taught 4th and 5th grades. I've also served as a math intervention tutor in grades K-5, math support teacher in grades 7 and 8, summer intervention teacher in 6th grade, and 3rd grade instructional coach. I have a Master's of Education in Instructional Design, and started teaching at CSUC in January 2023. In addition to working with the CSU, I also work for an EdTech company providing Professional Development to Teachers on our Math and Science curriculums.
These courses are a sequence of three mathematics courses that have been specifically designed for future teachers of Kindergarten through 8th grade. A teacher needs mathematical knowledge that is deeper and more flexible than what a student or typical adult user of mathematics needs. For example, a teacher needs to understand not only how, but why, the math “works,” and how to think about concepts from multiple perspectives, with multiple strategies, and with multiple representations.
The specialized topics of focus in Math 110 will be: Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, & Multiplication.
The specialized topics of focus in Math 210 will be: Division, Geometry, and Measurement.
The specialized topics of focus in Math 310 will be: Ratios/Proportions, Algebraic Expressions and Equations, Statistics and Probability.
Outcome 1: Specialized Content Knowledge of Mathematics
You will be able to correctly solve mathematics problems (specifically, for the topics listed above), using multiple strategies, multiple representations, reasoning and sense-making.
Outcome 2: Communication About Mathematics
You will be able to clearly and correctly communicate mathematical ideas in complete sentences, using correct terminology.
Outcome 3: Analyzing Others’ Mathematical Thinking
You will be able to interpret others' (including children's and your peers') mathematical ideas.
