Love Life Live Well
From "labels" vs "folders" to creating a "personal signature," where do you begin finding tools in the settings in order to utilize them optimally?
I used to be very opposed to the Gmail filing system to be very honest with you. Ever since they've been doing this label thing from the beginning, I've been averse to it. Starting with hotmail, then yahoo, and forced to use Outlook in the business world, it made no sense to me why Gmail organized their data for us thusly.
It has grown on me since the late 90's though. I get how now we must change our mindsets to stop thinking in terms of our virtual desktops as physical spaces with folders atop them. They are virtual spaces with categories in them. When I sort them 3 different ways and I have a message labeled as they do, I can access them either of 3 ways.
It definitely makes it easier for my now middle-aged brain to remember and search for old messages in more than one way. Stoned, drunk, and/or cross-faded recall often helps, but not always... 😉
⬅️Here for instance, see how I have "CNIT" as a category with sublabels for all the CNIT classes that I will take in the future.
I have several for personal categories hidden under more below, but you needn't see those for this example. ↩️
I learned a long time ago in the workplace where to find this feature and was instructed to create my own. This was long before branding became a well known Marketing tool. Before standardization and corporatization, we were allowed to do whatever we wanted and created our own unique signatures any way we wanted.
Currently as a student, I went the lazy Tennessee Williams route and went with my usual handle, "Stellaaahhh...!!!" If you see that anywhere on the web as a log in, username, or email without numbers or characters following it since 1999, that's probably me. Google me! I dare you. 🙃
Had I patented my name years ago, I would be a millionaire thanks to the wine makers and BRILLIANT Marketing Team at Stella Rosa. I commend them for #Stellabrate! 🥳 I'm kicking myself after all these decades. Why didn't I THINK OF THAT??? 🤣
I was totally lazy above, but that's earnestly how I have always signed off on all of my personal and semi-professional or student email messages. At least, it's accurate! It saves me that many keystrokes too when I'm "signing off." I'm all for anything that saves haste and/or waste.
That's why I decided to become a coder. Shortcuts, programs, algorithms, all make things easier for us as humans to be more efficient with our time. Leaving us more time for fun activities. Let's be honest work sucks. We work to live not live to work!
If you don't remember writing letters and putting lip prints on letters and S.W.M.S. [sealed with my saliva], you will never understand how personal and unique to you that a signature, seal, or sigil can be. Have fun with it! Change fonts styles, insert images, and graphics. The possibilities are endless.
