2024 Summer CCSF Math 110A-961 CRN 53980 Information
This section of Math 110A is scheduled to meet MWF 9:10– 11:25am, room TBA. Most testing will be online through Canvas but some will take place in person. In particular, the final exam (or part of it) will occur in person on Friday, July 19. This class will have regular quizzes and tests/exams administered through Canvas in addition to those two exams.
Meetings
The MWF class meetings are required, not optional. Details below.
Participation Requirement and Good Standing
In order to remain in good standing, students must meet all of these three requirements:
Log into Canvas every weekday, even if just for a few minutes, to check for Announcements or new Discussion prompts (if any).
Attend class faithfully and on time. Students who are absent or exc essively late more then once amonth ridk being removed from the class.
Participate in the section's Canvas shell regularly.
Never score 25% or less on two quizzes in a row.
Students who fall out of good standing risk being removed from the class. To be reinstated, if even possible, students must usually forfeit a quiz score and show me their homework binders.
Textbook
Students must purchase or have regular access (e.g., by using the reserve copies in the Library or at the Cengage website) to the text: Calculus (Early Transcendentals) by Stewart, 8th Edition, ISBN 978-1-285-74155-0.
Required Software
Regular, reliable access to the internet, a browser, and (for students who do not own scanners) a scanning app (for creating pdfs as test submissions).
Required and Recommended Materials
I recommend purchasing a ruler (for drawing number lines) and some graph paper.
I do not recommend trying to complete this class using only a telephone; it's possible but unpleasant. Please use at least a tablet, or, better yet, a laptop or full-size computer.
Students will have to provide their own paper, for either printing or copying problems by hand.
I allow "dumb" calculators except when I say otherwise in an item’s instructions. No telephones, no smart watches, no algebra systems, etc.
Students should do their homework faithfully and keep their work neatly in a binder dedicated to this class.
People requesting a special service (e.g., grade appeal, recommendation letter, reinstatement) must submit their homework binders to me immediately. I do not accept late or incomplete submissions.
Attendance
Attendance I will drop/withdraw students who are not in good standing. See above for how to stay in good standing.
Assessments (Tests)
Diagnostics include weekly quizzes, three unit tests, and the Final Exam. The material comes from the textbook, class lectures, and supplemental materials. As of this writing, I plan to make the quizzes available during a 24-hour window approximately every other day. (Two days of summer session = one week of a regular semester). The chapter tests will probably in person, as is the final exam (or part of it).
Important Dates
See the first paragraph above for the date of the final exam. For important college-wide dates (e.g., add/drop/withdraw deadlines), please see the Admissions & Records Important Dates webpage.
