The purpose Transformational Change Project (TCP) is to increase membership retention, foster leadership succession planning, and preserve/promote Philippine Cultural Arts with the PASACAT Philippine Performing Arts Company. This includes the redesign and enhancement of PASACAT's class curriculum and the creation of more leadership opportunities for membership. The Transformational Change Leadership Team (TCLT) will collaborate on improvements that can be made to the class curriculum and innovate ideas for membership to be more involved in the leadership of the organization.
Over the past few years, the membership of PASACAT has been slowly decreasing. Membership turnover has increased, and new membership applications have declined. The current leadership of PASACAT has maintained their positions for more than ten years. However, past trends have shown that leadership positions are usually succeeded within 2-4 years of service. The current leadership has become stagnant from their long periods of service and is hesitant to step down from their positions because they fear that there is no one to succeed them and keep the organization running.
The decline in membership and leaders is driven by an environmental change in the San Diego Philippine community. In past years, PASACAT's membership base was mainly comprised of immigrants from the Philippines. However, the focus of the membership base has changed to first-generation and second-generation students. The mindset of the organization must change with our changing community and reach a new audience. By responding to the needs of our community, we will be able to continue PASACAT's mission of the preservation and promotion of Philippine Arts and Culture.
