Throughout the student's years in elementary school the art teachers are creating portfolios of student work. In the winter of the third grade all students are given to art assessments: a creative piece and a still life drawing. These assessments are used to deteremine which students will sit for the Torrence Creativity Test. In the spring of third grade, a committee of art teachers from grades 4-8 and the gifted coordinator evalute student work to deteremine placement into the gifted and talented art program at Joyce Kilmer. The process is ongoing, as the art teachers are asked to create portfolios annually.
We do not accept any art that was created outside of the school.
