Besides our two in-person courses (Honors FPS and Honors CmPS), there are many other opportunities available for our Gifted students to develop their skills and work in conjunction with each other! These opportunities allow for additional academic rigor, creativity, and problem solving, and may be of particular interest to our Gifted population.
Courses
Although Honors FPS and Honors CmPS are our classes most targeted to our Gifted learners specifically, there are a number of other courses available at MHS that may be interesting to these students, as they specifically require academic rigor, creativity, and innovation:
AP core courses
AP electives
Robotics
Forensics
T3: Innovation and Design
Entrepreneurship
and more!
Extracurriculars
Although there are a large number of sports and extracurriculars available, our academic competitions are particularly inviting to Gifted learners:
Academic Decathlon
Mock Trial
Model UN
Science League
Math League
Robotics
and more!
Independent Study Course
After completing the Honors FPS course, students can apply to continue in the honors independent study course. This allows our Gifted learners to take our honors Future Problem Course online, through Google Classroom, so that they can continue to participate and compete without taking up space in their schedules that could be used for AP or other electives.
State FPS Judging
Students who excel in Honors FPS can be trained as FPS judges at the state level. These students would judge "junior" division booklets (grades 4-6) and provide feedback to younger students, while strengthening their own skills, and earning a small stipend!
