Camps and Classes Protocols

Each camp session will be limited to up to 20 participants and we will only have one set of students per session. Camp will take place in the largest spaces of our facilities, including the lobbies, on the stage of the auditorium, or in our basement studio. All campers will maintain a distance of at least six feet apart with guidance from our teaching artists. Lunch and snack breaks will take place outdoors, weather permitting.

Students and teachers will be required to wear properly fitted face coverings at all times, other than when eating or drinking. Face masks should completely cover the nose and mouth and should be snugly fit. We expect students to arrive with their own masks but we will provide child-sized disposable masks in the event that their mask breaks or becomes soiled. In addition to snack and meal breaks, we will schedule frequent outdoor mask breaks throughout the day.

All areas of camp occupancy will have an air purifier that has been tested and proven against Covid-19 and other viral aerosols. Magik has also installed a UV air sanitizer to purify all air in our overall intake systems. When possible we will prop open doors to increase air flow.

Magik will provide multiple hand sanitizing stations and will schedule regular breaks for campers to sanitize or wash their hands. If parents/students have a brand or type of hand sanitizer they prefer they are welcome to bring their own.

Campers will have their temperatures checked by the Camp Manager or Teaching Artist twice per day- during morning check-in and before lunch. If a camper has a temperature greater than 100 degrees they will not be admitted to camp/parents will be called to pick up their child.

Parents and other care-givers will not be permitted to enter the building with the exception of the first day orientation and the final day for showcase. Magik staff members who are unaffiliated with camp will not interact with campers.

Check-in will take place outdoors in front of the main entrance of the auditorium. Parents should stay with their child until their temperature is taken and they are cleared for entry. We will not be able to allow a camper to participate in camp if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

• Fever/Chills

• Cough

• Shortness of Breath

• Fatigue

• Headache

• Sore Throat

• Congestion

• Muscle of Body Aches

• Recent Loss of Taste or Smell

• Diarrhea

• Nausea or Vomiting

We will ask each camper if they are experiencing any of the above symptoms as well as if they have been in contact with someone who is known to be positive with Covid-19, someone who is symptomatic of Covid-19, or if they have been told by a medical professional to self isolate due to a potential exposure risk. We will not be able to admit any camper who has potentially been exposed to Covid-19 in the past 14 days. All camp instructors will also undergo temperature checks and health screening.

Each camp day will begin with a gathering in the auditorium with spaced out students. Parents are invited to participate in the auditorium on the first day of camp for a short orientation session.

Magik facilities will be thoroughly cleaned after each day and camp staff will routinely disinfect high touch surfaces throughout the day. We will limit the amount of shared items between campers, especially those that are difficult to disinfect.

Magik will not provide any type of food for lunch or snack breaks other than water. Students will not be allowed to share food that they bring from home. Meal breaks will take place outdoors, weather permitting. All students will wash their hands with soap and water after lunch and snack breaks.

All Teaching Artists will either be vaccinated or receive routine Covid-19 tests.

Our Camp Manager, Alejandro Pesina (alejandro@magiktheatre.org), will also act as Safety Manager when implementing these protocols and can be contacted at 210.227.2751, ext. 300 if you have any questions. He will be the point of contact for direct safety concerns and contact tracing procedures. Our General Manager, Shannon Bishop (shannon@magiktheatre.org), acts as the Health, Safety, and Covid-19 Supervisor and is responsible for creating and continually updating our safety protocols based on guidance from health officials and industry standards. Either can be reached for questions about our procedures via email.

Campers should stay at home for any of the following reasons:

• If they are symptomatic or have a positive case of Covid-19

• If someone in the household is symptomatic or has a positive case of Covid-19

• If they have been in close contact with someone who is symptomatic or has a positive case of Covid-19

• If someone in the household has has been in close contact with someone who is symptomatic or has a positive case of Covid-19

Symptomatic Camper

• • If a camper begins to show symptoms of Covid-19 they will be immediately isolated from the rest of the camp group and their parents will be contacted. We will provide a safe and comfortable place for isolation and a camp staff member will stay with them until their parents can come pick them up.

  • We will alert the rest of the camp parents to come pick their children up and camp will end for the day. We will recommend that those campers stay in isolation.

  • If a parent calls to tell us they are not bringing their child to camp because they are ill we will cancel camp for that day.

  • We will request that the ill camper receive a Covid-19 test as soon as possible.

    • If the test is negative AND they are cleared by a doctor to return, we will resume the rest of the session.

    • If the test is positive we will end the camp session indefinitely.

    • We will notify local health authorities.

    • We will recommend that all campers receive Covid-19 tests immediately and then again based on the timing of the symptom onset date of the positive camper. For example, if a camper is symptomatic on a Friday we know that they were most likely contagious starting on Wednesday. The camper should wait to get a Covid test until Sunday to avoid a false negative.

    • In the case of any positive Covid result within camp or Magik staff we will have our facilities thoroughly cleaned by a professional cleaning company

Symptomatic Instructor

• • If an instructor begins to show symptoms of Covid-19 they will be required to alert the Camp Manager and General Manager and will return home.

  • We will alert the camp parents to come pick their children up and camp will end for the day. We will recommend that those campers stay in isolation.

  • If an instructor notifies us that they will not be teaching due to Covid-19 symptoms we will cancel camp for that day.

  • We will require that the Teaching Artist receive a Covid-19 test as soon as possible.

    • If the test is negative AND they are cleared by a doctor to return, we will resume the rest of the session.

    • If the test is positive we will end the camp session indefinitely.

    • We will notify local health authorities.

Potential Exposure- Camper/Instructor

• • If an instructor or camper learns that they have been exposed to someone who is symptomatic or has a positive case of Covid-19 they should immediately notify the Camp Manager and stay home.

  • We will continue the camp session but we will notify all parents of the situation and they can choose if their children will continue to participate.
