He was initially related to the Ogdoad of Hermopolis, as the god of the underworld. In the Pyramid Texts of Unas, Anubis is associated with the Eye of Horus who acted as a guide to the dead and helped them find Osiris. In other myths Anubis and Wepwawet (Upuaut) led the deceased to the halls of Ma´at where they would be judged. Anubis watched over the whole process and ensured that the weighing of the heart was conducted correctly. He then led the innocent on to a heavenly existence and abandoned the guilty to Ammit. Thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, hungry jackals would dig up bodies buried in shallow desert graves and feed on them. To ancient Egyptians, who thought that a person’s body needed to be preserved in order to enjoy the afterlife, this was a fate worse than death itself. Consequently, people would pray and make offerings to the jackal god to spare the bodies of their loved ones. In this way, the jackal became associated with the dead, and Anubis was worshiped as the god of the underworld. (credit: World book.online]

Anubis was a moody and sad teen. He didn't fit in, but wished there was a place for him. Then one day on the school bulletin board he saw a new advertisement. It read: Hiring teen to be god of underworld. Requirements: moody, able to decide who shall go onto the underworld, ect. Pay is a temple for YOU! Anubis was thrilled! He headed to his new job the next day. Soon after, he was judging the hearts of others and being worshipped. Thanks, advertisement!
