What brought you to MACU?
My interest in MACU first came due to a calling from God. After further exploring MACU, I learned of the people here and the spiritual inspiration that you are surrounded by and never looked back.
How long have you been playing Rocket League?
I have been playing Rocket League since the fall of 2019.
What has been one of your most memorable experiences in the game?
Some of the most memorable experiences in game surprisingly come from the non-competitive side of Rocket League. When I am sitting there in workshops, talking to friends on Discord or just playing a casual 1v1 while talking with a friend, it reminds me of why games can be so fun and relaxing.
What is something you have enjoyed about being in MACU Esports?
MACU Esports has pushed me to be a better student and a person first, rather than a video gamer. The relationships built within the esports program have been phenomenal, and I hope they continue growing.
What drives you to improve your skill?
What drives me to be better is curiosity. In the game of Rocket League, there are many factors in every aspect of the game. Because of this, every situation is unique, and I want to have the ability to play every situation a little differently in order to let my creative juices flow and consistently make my opponents wonder what I will do next.
Jackson Bush
Jackson Bush has been playing Rocket League for the past six years. His goal is to stay active in the game outside of practice to keep up his skills. This year, his goal is to help the team make playoffs while improving as a team together. When asked about what he appreciates in a teammate, he said, "Good communication and a team-first player." He encourages those in high school who are interested in esports to give it a try. "I came into it after a full year of college, and I'm loving it!"
Luis Reyes
How long have you been playing your esports title competitively?
This will be my first semester playing competitively for my school and it will be the first of many more.
What is something you do to improve?
I make sure to work on my weaknesses rather than my strengths. Putting in the hours that others won’t is the best way to prevail amongst others.
What is a goal you have in esports this semester?
My goal is to be the best team player I can be and be a major part in winning games for MACU.
What is something that you appreciate in a teammate?
I appreciate competitiveness. There is nothing better than having a teammate who is willing to put in the work to be better and win games.
What advice do you have for high school students who are interested in esports?
Go for it. Don’t be scared. I was nervous to ask to join the esports team, but now here I am the new member of the Rocket League team!
Chris Swinney
How long have you been playing your esports title competitively?
I have been playing Overwatch competitively for over a year and with Rocket League, very recently.
What is something you do to improve?
Something I want to improve within my gameplay would have to be mechanics, no matter what game.
What is a goal you have in esports this semester?
My goal this semester with esports is to go to the playoffs with either team I am on.
What is something that you appreciate in a teammate?
I appreciate a teammate who is dedicated and practices as much as he/she can.
What advice do you have for high school students who are interested in esports?
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Even if you don't think your good, still tryout. Maybe you will discover you're not as bad as you think you are.
