Place Value Growth Points

Overview of Place Value Growth Points

The Place Value growth points describe a trajectory of student’s conceptual knowledge of reading, writing, ordering and interpreting single-digit numbers in growth points 0 and 1, incrementing at each growth point to four digit numbers and beyond in growth points 4 and 5.

At each growth point, students work within a given range to explore concepts of quantity, number portioning, use of number lines and place value conventions for reading and writing numbers in order to support them to transition to the next growth point in their learning.

The following table provides teachers with a framework to identify the number range students are working in on the learning trajectory to read, write and order numbers.
