I always begin the school year with a "math mindset." So many students are scared to learn the many new skills in 4th grade. I get it, it's hard stuff!! We go over these rules, and I feel like it helps ease them into a very tough school year.

Mendota School District #289 introduced a new math curriculum in the 2023-2024 school year. There is so much to get used to when this happens, for all of us!! 99math is an incredible website to practice math facts. Each week, the class plays a game in which the number of math-fact problems solved is accumulated into a total number. Within 9 minutes, our goal is to beat out our previous score. Check out our scores below soon. 👇🏼
When a student beats out all of the students in the class in Around the World, we celebrate by jamming to the "Celebration" song by Kool & the Gang. The student also receives a full-size candy bar. Below are all the winners. 👇🏼

One very easy way to enhance math fact fluency is to ask your child to practice with multiplication flashcards. Just 10 minutes each day will help even if they look at them alone or with a partner. I make it a routine for my son so that he knows when to squeeze the time in each night. It's super important now that these math facts are essential for what's ahead in upper elementary to middle school math.

There are a ton of new concepts to cover in the new curriculum, and DIVISIBILITY RULES is one of them. We learn them when learning factors, multiples, and number patterns in Chapter 8.
