I always begin the school year with a "math mindset."   So many students are scared to learn the many new skills in 4th grade.  I get it, it's hard stuff!!  We go over these rules, and I feel like it helps ease them into a very tough school year.

IF YOU WANT TO PREP YOUR CHILD FOR 5TH GRADE, PRACTICE MATH FACTS!!!!

One very easy way to enhance math fact fluency is to ask your child to practice with multiplication flashcards.  Just 10 minutes each day will help even if they look at them alone or with a partner.  I always made it a routine for my son so that he knew when to squeeze the time in each night.  It's super important now that these math facts are essential for what's ahead in upper elementary to middle-school math.  

Two-digit by two-digit multiplication is TOUGH!!  The students have learned two methods of solving the problems.
