Child In Transition support

If your your family ever experiences losing your home and being in transition trying to find a new home due to situations beyond your control such as: fire; natural disaster or eviction then we can help. McKinney Vento is a federal law that allows us to provide support your child in school whilst you deal with the the situation at hand. Let us help lighten the load and give you one less thing to worry about. Jeremy Batten, your School Counselor, is the family liaison for this program at Dayton Elementary. Below is a list of recourses associated with this program and about the process.

To access the program.

  1. Our school sends a questionnaire in your child's registration packet called a Student Residency Questionnaire (SRQ). This lets us know if you may need any assistance at this time.

  2. If you complete an SRQ you will receive a response letter from our school district letting you know if you are eligible for the program or not. If you were not eligible but feel you should be you have a right of appeal; please contact Mr. Batten the school counselor for this.

  3. Once you are deemed eligible we work together to identify your needs with an intake form. Needs can be diverse as every situation is different but some examples may be school supplies or help with transportation. The needs are documented on a form labelled the McKinney-Vento form either in-person with the counselor, over the phone with the counselor or completed by yourself and returned to the counselor. The form will be sent home with your child. If it is not returned the counselor will try two other methods to get it to you usually by email and by mail. If we cannot get hold of you with three different methods it is assumed that participation in the program is not desired. There is a link to a McKinney-Vento form at the bottom of this page.

  4. Along with the McKinney-Vento form a Healthy Communities Coalition (HCC) referral form will be sent home. This is a referral form for our Dayton Area School Resource Coordinator, Miss Terri Gahr, to reach out to you to see if she can be of assistance. Again, there is a link at the bottom of this page for the HCC referral.

  5. Once the forms are returned to the school Miss Gahr and Mr. Batten will work with you to ensure that additional supports for your child's educational support are implemented.
