Maths Development

Your child takes MAPs test three times a year. But did you know the RIT score (a Rasch UnIT) they get can be used to access tailored lessons for them to work to improve their knowledge and score at home? NWEA, who created MAPs tests, have got together with Khan Academy to develop a program to match your child's current level and provide lessons that push them past their current level of understanding.

MAP tests

Your child takes MAPs three times a year (twice in Kinder). But what is a MAPs test? It is a Measure of Academic Progress. It is used by your child's teacher to check they are on track and if not either plot their way back or give them more advanced and challenging work that matches their level of academic scoring. You can find here a more detailed explanation of MAP tests from their creator NWEA.

A Student Study Team (SST)

As a parent you are a primary member of your child's study team along with your child's teacher and a whole group of other support staff here at Dayton Elementary such as: the Principal, the Counselor, the School Psychologist and others. At any point if a member of your child' study team including you can call a Student Study Team (SST) meeting to address any concerns that may have arisen in a child's education. This can be class behavior, refusal to do work or struggling with the work. The team follows a prescriptive solution based approach to identify the issue and develop a set of interventions or solutions so you child can get back in the classroom being successful. If you feel an SST may be necessary please contact your child's teacher to begin this process.

The ICAT Process (Instructional Consultancy)

This is a nationally used evidence-based process to help any of our students who may find themselves struggling to being on track with their class. Instructional Consultancy or ICAT is used when a teacher finds their educational measures are not being effective. When they initiate the process they consult with a group of educators based here at our school who have received additional specialist training for such cases. This group, as a resource, works with the class teacher to utilize, develop and implement new measures to use. This is a measured approach that starts with a measurement of what the student knows; how to plot them back to the class track and monitors their progress along the way.
