In Fifth Grade students continue text based lessons- Storybooks, Readers Theatre, Scenes, and Monologues. Stage Directions: Upstage, Downstage, Stage Left and Right. Memorization Techniques: Repetition, Group Activities, creative play- dramatizing stories, alternate endings, retelling familiar stories, pantomime, and improvisation through guided imaginative exploration. Intermediate Scene Analysis- sense memory, script, cue, monologue, dialogue, protagonist, and antagonist. Theatre History- Basic understanding of how theatre evolved through history.
Skills we explore: Vocal- Articulation and Projection. Kinesthetic: Character Development through movement, how emotions affect how we move. Proper Performance position: Cheating out and the 4th Wall. Spatial Awareness Cognitive: Characterization, Character choices, Respond to a guided discussion about the elements of a story, using plot, character, action and setting. Character Objective and Beats. Musical notation, rhythm identification and creation, dance technique and styles.
