USD 453 Strategic Plan and KESA (Kansas Education Systems Accreditation) Action Plan
Strategic Plan Overview and Process:
A strategic plan serves as a roadmap to ensure an agreed upon direction for the school district to prepare students for future success and maintain a safe and secure learning environment. The development of this plan began with soliciting input via needs assessments from a wide range of perspectives and experiences, in an effort to define Leavenworth USD 453's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and successes.
The Board of Education reviewed the initial phase of input provided from throughout the school community, and agreed to the following focus areas of an updated strategic plan: Teaching & Learning; Staffing & Personnel; Finance & Operations; Student Engagement and Support Services; and Family & Community Involvement.
A second phase of data collection obtained public input specific to each of the focus areas listed above, and was used to develop objectives and action steps. This becomes the foundation of a fluid plan that will guide the collective efforts of the entire school community (students, families, community members, staff, and administration), with regular reporting of performance measures to deliver transparency and track progress of ongoing improvement.

KESA (Kansas Education Systems Accreditation)
Every school district in Kansas engages in an annual accreditation process, known as KESA. This accreditation system is comprised of School Improvement, Compliance, and Outcomes. Through the school improvement work, local school districts use a variety of data and feedback points, including the local strategic plan, to create goals-action plans as measured with 6 month and 12 month targets. These goals-action plans are submitted to the Kansas State Department of Education for review and receive ongoing technical support from KSDE consultants related to these plans. Each district has an individualized timeline for implementation and target dates based on a KSDE identified schedule. For Leavenworth Public Schools, this is currently set in a January to January annual cycle.
Please note that KESA Goals and Action Plans are intended to compliment other school improvement efforts already in place such as Strategic Plans, Board Goals, etc.
