Section championships

Today was one of the best performances from Lincoln in the SJS Section in almost 20 years! Not only did the Sophomore Boys win the Section Championship title, but we qualified 4 varsity athletes to the CA State Championship meet!

The varsity girls kicked off the day with huge PR’s, allowing Emma (19:21) and Skyler (19:27) to lock in placements as individual qualifiers to the State Meet. Lincoln hasn’t had a female qualify to State since the 1990’s! Overall, the girls team, consisting of Molly, Emily, Hannah G. and Hannah S., came together and fought their way into a 4th place team finish. That was a huge accomplishment from their 8 place finish in 2019.

The varsity boys followed it up with incredible performances as well. Noah (16:00) placed 5th overall, smashing Lincoln’s best time on the course by 18 seconds. Jansen (16:23) came in strong just two spots behind him, securing their individual qualifier spots to the state meet. Daniel, Caleb, Keith and Andrew R. helped close a gap on Folsom, solidifying another 4th place finish from 8th in 2019. Way to go Trojans!

TCAL Championships

Lincoln rocked the TCAL Championship race today! I saw so many athletes rise to the occasion when they were needed most. I saw our kids race with passion, determination and skill. They were inspiring to each other while demonstrating impressive sportsmanships as they encouraged other teams. From our families, fans and alumni, I saw an overwhelming amount of positive support. Altogether, making this an event that everyone will cherish and remember.

While there was much to celebrate about all our kids and teams, a special congratulations goes out to Noah Pagaran and the varsity boys team. His first place overall finish broke the Lincoln High School 5k record with a time of 15:46!  At the same time, our varsity boys brought home the TCAL Championship title, which is an accomplishment that hasn’t been done since 2013.

Another great day of racing! The level of competition this year, as well as a fast course, produced a bunch more PR’s. On the Varsity Girls side, Emma broke the 20 minute barrier in a 5k for the first time, while Skyler improved her time from the previous race here by 52 seconds. Emilly shaved over a minute off her best 5k. Hannah Skelton took off 40 seconds while Hannah Gaines took off over 2 and half minutes. For the Varsity Boys, we were able to put 3 Lincoln guys in the top 6. Noah (3rd), Daniel (5th), Jansen (6th). See below for more results and photos!

XC + Mud = SUPERFUN!!! Today was an absolute blast. This time of the season is a bit of a grind with all the championship races right around the corner. The Supercross event was a great way to take some of the pressure off and just have fun doing what we do best. Speaking of the best, Lincoln’s teams ran away with many 1st place victories, including the best overall Supercross team award! There are TONS of pictures from this event. Check them out below!

This is an important meet for us because the San Joaquin Section Championships will be raced on this course at the end of the season. It gives us an opportunity to see how fit we are on this course and compare ourselves to many of the strongest schools in our section.

That being said, the best team performance of the day was the JV Boys race, who took 1st place overall! Otherwise, most of our teams were missing key athletes to score well in the other divisions, but we had some outstanding individual performances.

On the varsity girls side, Skyler Tatum took 6th overall and broke 20 minutes on this extremely challenging course. She ran the fastest time of all female D1 athletes today.  Emma Kaufman was not far behind, placing 13th in 20:42. This is extremely exciting because if these girls can place in the top 14 during the Section Championships they could qualify for the CA State Championships! For the varsity boys, we had Jansen Gillig and Noah Pagaran place 10th and 14th overall and ran solid times for this early in the season.  It’ll be a little more challenging for them later on as the guys will have to place in the top 10 overall to make it to the State Meet. The good news is that only 4 of the athletes in front of them will be in our race at the Section Championships.

Today was definitely a roller coaster of highs and lows, but let’s focus on the highs! Myles, Logan and Kyle kicked off the JV boys race with new personal records. Myles placed 6th out of 125 runners!

Then Frosh/Soph boys crushed the competition, placing 1st as a team. Caleb, Baylen and Jeffrey placed in the top 20, earning both individual and team awards while the remaining 7 finished in the top 30.

Our Frosh/Soph girls really had to step up as we weren’t running with all the top girls. Caleigh and Grace led the way by working together and placing 23rd and 24th overall. Avery, Emma and Summer were the next 3 point scorers, giving the team a 6th place finish.

The Varsity Boys race and a rough start as half of the field was led the wrong direction and had to backtrack. Most of our boys were included in that group, but did an amazing job working their way back towards the front. Despite the added distance, Jansen and Daniel were able to finish in the top 10!

The Varsity Girls had an outstanding race! Both Emma (20:04) and Skyler (20:08) ran the fastest 2 times ever by a Lincoln female athlete! These times could easily qualify them to the Section Championships later in the season and make them contenders for the State Meet. Molly, Emilly, and Hannah rounded off the top 5 and helped place the team in 4th out of 16!

Golden Gate Park offered a beautiful course, perfect weather, and FAST times! Skyler Tatum (17:39) and Emma Kaufman (18:26) produced the fastest times by any Lincoln High School female runners! Molly Grupe and Emily Ellison also broke into Lincoln’s top 15 fastest times.

Jansen Gillig (15:11) and Daniel Gonzales (15:23) ran exceptional times as well. They are now in the top 10 list for Lincoln’s fastest varsity runners.

The JV Girls scored the best team results of the day by placing 5th, led again by Milanya Marchesotti. Then on the JV boys side, Caleb Cliburn was able to work his way up to the front of the pack and finished in 2nd place overall out of 213 athletes! Great racing Trojans!!!

TCAL #1

Lincoln Trojans were a dominant force in our first TCAL meet of the season. Despite the temperature hitting 100 degrees, our teams dug deep and supported each other to a victorious finish.  It was a tough day on the course, but Lincoln earned 1st place team finishes for the JV Girls, JV Boys and Varsity Boys as well as a strong 2nd place finish for the Varsity Girls!  Check out these amazing pictures of grit and determination!

Lincoln Trojans had an impressive opening season race! Milanya took first out of 66 girls and helped lead the Frosh/Soph Girls team to a 1st place finish overall.  Kaylee and Hailey were able to break into the top 10 as well. Freshmen boys were led by Caleb, Baylen and Kobi as all 3 finished in the top 10! Rounding off the point scorers for the boys was Luca (16th) and Noah (21st). Meanwhile, Jefferey, Alex, Zach, Ethan, and Logan brought Lincoln another 1st place team finish for the sophomore boys race!

Skyler Tatum had an incredible race for the varsity girls by shaving almost 2 minutes off her previous race on that course, placing 2nd for the team. Emma also had a very strong run and placed 5th overall out of 70 girls. Emily, Sydney and Hannah Skelton ran tough and helped place the team in the top 3. We were tied for 2nd with Pitman HS at 60 points each, but without a 6th place runner we were bumped to 3rd. (We’ll get ‘em next time!)

Varsity Boys had a stunning victory over Oakdale and took the win.  Lincoln stuck to their game plan and raced brilliantly.  Noah, Daniel and Jansen went out with the front pack, but did not lead. They waited patiently for everyone else to die off and then moved their way up, placing 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. Our second group ran as a strong pack behind the first, working together and pushing each other for the first 2 miles. After that, it was every man for himself to try and earn a Top 7 varsity position and wear the coveted white jerseys in upcoming races. Those Top 7 are now Noah, Daniel, Jansen, Andrew F., Josh, Tory, and Andrew R.

Lodi Flames Invite

California fires brought smoke to the valley and we were forced to cancel the race, but that didn’t stop us from having a good time! Lincoln was definitely the most spirited team out there. Don’t believe me? Just check out the video! Those who had stuck around at the park long enough got to hear a presentation from one of the real athletes that was part of the famous McFarland cross country movie. Thomas Valles was there to share his life story about overcoming adversity and the positive impact that cross country had on his life. It was a powerful story that even brought tears to his eyes.
